About the job
Boock is building a mobile app for readers on Android phones. We are looking for a hands-on Android Mobile App Developer who can architect, build, ship, and continuously improve a polished reading experience. This role is ideal for someone who has already built consumer mobile products using the modern Android stack and knows how to balance speed, product quality, performance, and maintainability.
You will help us create a fast, reliable, beautifully designed Android app for readers, with a phone-first experience and a codebase that is ready for tablets, foldables, and future Android form factors.

What you will do

• Own the Android app from architecture to release, including development, testing, performance tuning, and Play Store delivery
• Build high-quality product flows for reading, discovery, library, search, bookmarking, highlights, notifications, and account-related experiences
• Develop the app using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose with clean, scalable Android architecture
• Create responsive Android UI that works well on phones today and can extend cleanly to larger screens tomorrow
• Implement offline-first content access, local persistence, caching, and smooth content loading
• Integrate backend APIs, analytics, crash reporting, notifications, and release tooling
• Set up or improve automated testing, CI/CD, QA workflows, and production monitoring
• Collaborate closely with product, design, backend, and content teams to ship user-facing features quickly and well
• Use GenAI tools responsibly to accelerate coding, refactoring, documentation, test generation, and prototyping
• Contribute ideas for future AI-powered reader experiences such as smarter search, personalization, summaries, or in-app assistance

What we are looking for

• Proven experience building and shipping Android apps in production
• Strong hands-on expertise in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
• Strong understanding of modern Android architecture patterns such as MVVM, UDF, clean architecture, repositories, ViewModel, coroutines, and Flow
• Experience with local persistence and offline-capable mobile apps using tools such as Room, DataStore, and Paging
• Experience integrating REST or GraphQL APIs and building reliable sync or caching flows
• Solid understanding of Android performance, including startup time, smooth scrolling, memory use, battery awareness, and network efficiency
• Experience with testing across unit, UI, and instrumentation layers
• Experience with CI/CD and release workflows using tools such as GitHub Actions, Gradle automation, Firebase App Distribution, Test Lab, or similar
• Experience with analytics, crash monitoring, notifications, and feature rollout tooling
• Strong product sense and attention to UI detail, usability, accessibility, and readability

Strong preference

• Experience in reader, ebook, publishing, media, news, education, or content-consumption apps
• Experience building features such as offline reading, annotations, highlights, search, recommendations, or personalized content feeds
• Experience with Firebase services such as Crashlytics, Analytics, Remote Config, FCM, App Distribution, and Test Lab
• Experience optimizing app performance with Baseline Profiles, benchmarking, or profiling tools
• Experience with Google Play release management, subscriptions, or billing flows
• Comfort using AI-assisted development tools such as Gemini in Android Studio or GitHub Copilot with strong engineering judgment

Nice to have

• Exposure to SwiftUI, Kotlin Multiplatform, or other cross-platform/mobile ecosystem experience
• Experience with GenAI integrations in apps using Firebase AI Logic, OpenAI APIs, or similar platforms
• Experience with accessibility for reader experiences, including large text, TalkBack, dark mode, and long-session usability
• Experience in early-stage product environments where speed, ownership, and pragmatic decision-making matter
