Device Manageability QA Engineer (Windows OS – Client Side)

Overview

Key Responsibilities

• OS-Level Functional Testing (Windows Client Devices)
• Validate device manageability workflows including provisioning, configuration changes, policy enforcement, and system state transitions.
• Test Windows OS components such as services, registry operations, scheduled tasks, OS feature behavior, update mechanisms, and system configuration layers.
• Perform end-to-end client scenarios involving restart cycles, user session transitions, system state transitions, and recovery behaviors.
• Windows Update & Patch Validation
• Verify that Windows Updates are downloaded, installed, and reported correctly.
• Validate update applicability, rollback behavior, installation logs, and system integrity post-update.
• Confirm update compliance reporting via device management solutions.
• Perform regression testing after update application.
• Automation & Scripting
• Develop and maintain scripts using Python, Java, C# to automate test cases, gather logs, validate system configurations, and manipulate OS settings.
• Experience using WinAppDriver for automating Windows desktop application workflows, validating UI behavior, and integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
• Use PowerShell, WMI, and CMD utilities for test execution and system validation.
• Automate repetitive OS validation tasks such as service checks, registry reads/writes, event log monitoring, update status extraction, and policy enforcement validation.
• Client-Side Manageability Workflow Testing
• Validate onboarding and enrollment workflows for device management platforms.
• Confirm correct application of configuration policies such as compliance rules, power settings, update rings, user policies, and device profiles.
• Test OS-based inventory reporting.
• Validate remote actions such as reboot, sync, wipe, lock, rename, and other device management commands.
• Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis
• Analyze OS logs including Event Viewer, CBS logs, WindowsUpdate logs, DISM logs, and WMI traces.
• Identify issues in OS state, update process, or policy application and provide detailed reproduction steps.
• Work with development teams to isolate and resolve OS manageability issues.
• Documentation & Test Artifact Creation
• Create detailed test cases, test plans, user flows, and reproducible bug reports.
• Maintain documentation for automation scripts, test beds, and environment setups.
• Provide consistent reporting of test results, coverage metrics, and readiness assessments for new Windows builds.
