An EV Charging Network Engineer is responsible for planning, deploying, monitoring, and maintaining the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. This includes designing network architecture, ensuring hardware and software integration, supporting site installation, managing connectivity, and optimizing network performance. The role is critical in ensuring reliable and scalable EV charging solutions.
Charging Infrastructure Planning & Design
- Conduct feasibility studies and site assessments for EV charger installation.
- Design network architecture for fast, standard, and ultra-fast charging stations.
- Evaluate electrical load requirements and coordinate with utility providers.
- Assist in selecting suitable EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) based on location type and use-case.
2. Installation & Deployment
- Coordinate with civil, electrical, and contractor teams for installation execution.
- Ensure proper integration of chargers, power supply systems, and communication modules (e.g., GSM, Ethernet).
- Oversee grounding, cabling, protection systems, and safety standards at sites.
3. Network Connectivity & Communication
- Configure network communication protocols (OCPP - Open Charge Point Protocol).
- Ensure real-time connectivity between chargers and central management software (CMS).
- Troubleshoot issues related to remote access, SIM connectivity, backend communication, and firmware updates.
4. Monitoring & Maintenance
- Use cloud-based platforms or CMS to monitor charging station health, uptime, and availability.
- Respond to network alarms, connectivity failures, or hardware malfunctions.
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and firmware upgrades.
5. Software Integration & Interoperability
- Work closely with software teams for mobile app integration, payment gateway setup, and user authentication (RFID, QR code).
- Ensure chargers are compatible with various vehicle types and charging standards (CCS, CHAdeMO, Type-2, etc.).
6. Data Management & Reporting
- Analyze network usage data: charging sessions, energy consumption, peak loads.
- Generate performance and uptime reports.
- Provide technical insights to management for scaling or optimization.
7. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure adherence to local and international safety codes, BIS, IEC standards, and electrical regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement protection mechanisms (overcurrent, thermal, surge protection).
8. Technical Support & Coordination
- Serve as a technical point of contact for field teams, OEMs, and service partners.
- Support customer service teams for resolving end-user complaints or issues.
- Train field staff and subcontractors on equipment handling and troubleshooting.
