Job Description: Lead Data Analyst
Role Overview
We are looking for a highly analytical and business-oriented Lead Data Analyst to drive data-driven decision-making across the organization. This role goes beyond individual analysis and requires ownership of data strategy, stewardship of key datasets, and leadership in analytics initiatives.
The ideal candidate combines deep analytical expertise with strong product understanding, enabling them to translate complex business problems into scalable analytical solutions. This role will work closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Business teams to define metrics, guide analytics efforts, and ensure data is used effectively to improve product performance and business outcomes.
The Lead Data Analyst will remain hands-on with data analysis and dashboarding, while also mentoring analysts, guiding best practices, and driving analytics engagement across teams.
Key Responsibilities
Product & Business Analytics Leadership
Develop a deep understanding of the core product, user journeys, and key business drivers.
Define and standardize product metrics, KPIs, and success frameworks across teams.
Partner with Product Managers and leadership to identify growth opportunities, user behavior insights, and performance gaps.
Translate ambiguous business problems into structured analytical approaches and measurable hypotheses.
Provide strategic recommendations that influence product roadmap and business decisions.Advanced Data Analysis (Hands-On)
Design and implement complex SQL queries involving joins, window functions, CTEs, nested queries, and performance optimizations.
Analyze large datasets to uncover actionable insights and communicate findings to Internal Leadership & Client Leadership Teams.Data Stewardship & Governance
Act as a data steward for key product and business datasets.
Ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability across analytics pipelines and dashboards.
Define and maintain metric definitions, data documentation, and data dictionaries.
Collaborate with Data Engineering to improve data models, data pipelines, and analytics infrastructure.Dashboard Strategy & Data Visualization
Lead the design and development of scalable dashboards and reporting frameworks using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Metabase.
Ensure dashboards clearly communicate product performance, KPIs, and trends.
Enable self-serve analytics for stakeholders through well-structured and intuitive dashboards.
Drive automation and reliability of reporting processes.
Ensure analytics assets remain maintainable, performant, and business-relevant.Analytics Engagement & Stakeholder Management
Act as the primary analytics partner for Product and Business teams & Clients.
Lead analytics discussions with stakeholders to define requirements, clarify business questions, and prioritize analytics workstreams.
Translate analytical insights into clear narratives and actionable recommendations.
Drive a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organization.Team Guidance & Mentorship
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior analysts.
Review analytical approaches, SQL queries, and dashboard designs to ensure quality and consistency.
Help establish analytics best practices, frameworks, and standards.
Support the growth and development of the analytics team.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
Strong expertise in SQL, including complex queries, performance optimization, and large-scale data analysis.
Hands-on experience with BI and visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Metabase.
Strong proficiency in MS Excel and Google Sheets for exploratory analysis and reporting.
Familiarity with data warehouses, data models, and ETL pipelines.
Business & Product Understanding
Proven ability to engage stakeholders and lead analytics initiatives.
Experience translating business problems into analytical frameworks and measurable insights.
Ability to balance hands-on analysis with strategic leadership.
Strong ability to communicate insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Expertise in storytelling with data through visualizations and presentations.
Ability to simplify complex analysis into clear, actionable insights.
