Role Overview

We are seeking a Mid-Level PHP Laravel Developer to join our growing engineering team.

You will primarily work on existing production applications, handling bug fixes, feature enhancements, performance improvements, API integrations, and ongoing maintenance. Most of our projects serve real businesses with active users, so attention to quality, testing, and reliability is essential.

This role requires significant overlap with UK business hours.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues
• Develop new features and enhancements in existing Laravel applications
• Work with MySQL databases and optimize application performance
• Build and maintain REST APIs
• Integrate third-party services and APIs
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
• Review pull requests and participate in code reviews
• Create and maintain automated tests
• Work closely with project managers and senior engineers
• Use AI coding tools effectively while maintaining ownership of code quality
• Participate in sprint planning, estimations, and technical discussions

Required Skills

Core PHP & Laravel

• 3–6 years of professional PHP development experience
• Strong Laravel experience (Laravel 8+ preferred)
• Solid understanding of MVC architecture
• Experience with Eloquent ORM
• Database design and query optimization
• Experience building RESTful APIs
• Authentication and authorization implementation
• Laravel queues, jobs, and scheduled tasks

Frontend

• Strong JavaScript fundamentals
• Experience with Blade templates
• Experience with Livewire, Vue.js, or React is a plus
• HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap, Tailwind CSS

Database & Infrastructure

• MySQL / MariaDB
• Git and Git workflows
• Linux server basics
• Familiarity with AWS, DigitalOcean, or similar cloud platforms
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines

AI-Assisted Development (Important)

• Comfortable using Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI coding tools
• Ability to review and validate AI-generated code critically
• Strong prompting and code-review mindset
• Ability to leverage AI for debugging, testing, documentation, and development acceleration
• Must view AI as a productivity multiplier, not a replacement for engineering judgment
