Network Security Engineer - Fortigate, Paloalto & Cisco

Overview

The Network & Firewall Security Engineer is responsible for supporting enterprise firewall remediation initiatives and providing day-to-day operational support for network and perimeter security environments. The role focuses on firewall policy management, troubleshooting, lifecycle management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams across multi-vendor platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Support firewall remediation activities, including software and hardware upgrades.
• Provide daily operational support for firewall and network security services, including policy updates, access reviews, and incident response.
• Serve as a primary engineer for firewall operations, remediation, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with Network, SOC, and Application teams to support lifecycle management activities.
  
  

• Review, analyze, and optimize firewall rule bases across multiple vendors.
• Identify and remediate unused, redundant, or risky firewall rules.
• Implement firewall policies, NAT rules, VPN configurations, and routing/security changes.
• Perform packet captures, log analysis, and deep troubleshooting for network and security issues.
• Execute firewall upgrades, HA failovers, and maintenance activities.
• Validate application traffic requirements and document rule ownership.
• Maintain accurate documentation, inventories, and change records.
• Ensure compliance with internal security standards and regulatory requirements.
  
  

• Hands-on experience with enterprise firewalls:
• Fortinet FortiGate (FortiManager, UTM, VPN)
• Palo Alto Networks (Panorama, App-ID, NAT, HA)
• Cisco ASA / Firepower (FMC, ACLs, NAT, VPN)
• Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, subnetting).
• Experience with packet capture and troubleshooting tools (tcpdump, Wireshark).
• Familiarity with logging platforms and security event analysis.
• Experience working within ITIL-based change management processes.
• Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
