About The Team
The Enterprise Solutions and Experience team is seeking a Principal IT Software data Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role building scalable, cloud-native data solutions. You will collaborate with a highly skilled and diverse group of individuals across the company and around the globe to address our top customer needs.
About The Role
As a Principal data engineer at UKG, design, development, and optimization of enterprise data platforms. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Informatica, data integration, and reporting ecosystems, along with strong experience in modern data engineering practices. This individual will play a critical role in driving data strategy, ensuring scalability, and enabling advanced analytics across the organization. This role combines hands-on development with strategic decision-making, while also providing mentorship and fostering a culture of technical excellence within the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration pipelines.
- Ensure data integrity, scalability, security, and reliability.
- Partner with business analysts, product owners, BI Developers, and data scientists to deliver actionable data products.
- Build robust microservices and REST/GraphQL APIs for seamless interoperability across enterprise platforms.
- Analyze, design, develop, implement, test, document, and operate large-scale, high-volume, high-performance data models (including star schemas), develop reports, dashboards, and other BI solutions for analytics based on business requirements and technical specifications using the Microsoft BI Platform (Azure Synapse, BigQuery, Power BI).
- Conduct hands-on code reviews and Peer Review (PR) approval. Enforce adherence to best practices and data standards.
- Work with solutions for both on-premises and cloud environments.
- Partner with BI architects on proofs of concept and prototypes of new tools, features, and technologies.
- 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2-3 years in a principal/lead role.
- Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and database management systems.
- Strong expertise in Informatica (PowerCenter, IICS, or equivalent) for ETL/ELT development and data integration.
- Champion data quality, governance, and compliance.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with Power BI development and in-depth knowledge building dynamic measures using advanced DAX techniques with cloud database systems.
- Good understanding of Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) concepts, star schema modeling, fact and dimension tables, and BI development lifecycle.
- Proven experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Advanced proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.).
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps, and DataOps practices for data pipelines.
- Exposure to enterprise PSA/ERP/CRM systems.
- Knowledge of data security, compliance.
- Experience with data orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Informatica Cloud Application Integration, etc.)
