Principal Software Engineer

At Raga AI, we are building tools to help ML teams accelerate model development and deployment. As a VC-backed startup, we are on a mission to transform how machine learning teams operate. We are looking for an Principal Software Engineer who can combine technical depth with people leadership to drive our next phase of growth.

• Lead architecture and design reviews, ensuring scalability, fault tolerance, and performance.
• Design and build scalable AI Agent systems that can autonomously execute workflows for ML teams.
• Guide and mentor engineers, set quality standards, and drive technical excellence.
• Write, debug, and optimize complex, high-performance software.
• Drive adoption of best practices in coding, testing, CI/CD, and automation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including Product, Data, and Business.
• Build and deploy cloud-native, distributed microservices for large-scale data/ML workloads.
• Participate in a full software lifecycle: feasibility, design, implementation, integration, testing, and delivery.
• Champion agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and coach teams on technical practices.

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in leadership/architect roles.
• Strong CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, design patterns.
• Hands-on expertise in C/C++, Java, and Python (Go or Rust a plus).
• Deep knowledge of Linux internals, multithreading, distributed systems, and microservices.
• Expertise in cloud-native platforms (Kubernetes, Docker) and large-scale deployments (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Experience with storage systems, file systems, replication, or data virtualization.
• Proven experience with CI/CD, automation, observability, and performance tuning.
• Strong debugging skills (gdb, core dump analysis, profiling tools).

• Experience with security, encryption, and cryptographic libraries.
• Knowledge of scale-out storage systems, file system internals.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures (Kafka, Pub/Sub).
• Exposure to AI/ML or MLOps platforms.
• Contributions to open-source projects.
• Experience with AI Agents, LLM orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangChain, AutoGPT, LlamaIndex), or agentic automation platforms is a strong plus
