Role Overview: Principal Software Engineer – Cloud Platform

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Software Engineer with deep expertise in AWS and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to design, build, and scale resilient cloud platforms. This role plays a critical part in shaping infrastructure architecture, driving automation-first practices, and enabling engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and cost-efficient solutions.

You will work closely with platform engineering, security, SRE, and product teams to build self-service, zero-touch infrastructure capabilities that significantly improve developer productivity and deployment speed.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and own scalable, secure cloud infrastructure on AWS using Infrastructure as Code.
• Develop and maintain reusable, version-controlled IaC modules and frameworks.
• Build and manage infrastructure using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, and Ansible.
• Design and implement CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure provisioning and lifecycle management.
• Promote immutable infrastructure and fully automated environment provisioning.
• Establish and enforce best practices for scalability, availability, security, and cost optimization.
• Conduct architecture and code reviews to ensure quality, consistency, and maintainability.
• Enable self-service infrastructure provisioning for internal engineering teams.
• Design secure and compliant cloud environments using least privilege and defense-in-depth principles.
• Mentor and guide engineers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing.
• Identify opportunities for optimization, refactoring, and performance improvements.
• Partner with product and engineering leadership to align on technical direction and constraints.
• Collaborate with architects to drive standardization and evolve the overall technology landscape.
• Contribute to high-quality technical documentation and knowledge repositories.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, Auto Scaling, EKS, ECS, Lambda, VPC, ALB/NLB, Route 53, PrivateLink, EBS, EFS, S3, IAM, KMS, and Secrets Manager.
• 15+ years of experience in designing and implementing cloud infrastructure solutions.
• Deep understanding of cloud cost optimization strategies and financial governance.
• Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., SOC 2, FedRAMP, HIPAA).
• Solid experience with Kubernetes (especially EKS) and containerized architectures.
• Familiarity with GitOps-based workflows and deployment models.
• Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities with experience guiding engineering teams.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
