What You’ll Do

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in providing technical leadership across various backend systems while being instrumental in the design, development, and maintenance of scalable architectures.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

• Contributing to the design and architecture of our backend systems, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and performant, while also identifying and assessing new technologies.
• Collaborating with architects and relevant teams to design backend solutions and troubleshoot issues effectively.
• Writing high-quality, maintainable, and testable code for backend services, ensuring seamless integration with front-end components and databases.
• Offering technical guidance and mentorship to fellow engineers, leading design discussions, and conducting thorough code reviews to promote best practices in backend development.
• Diagnosing and resolving complex technical challenges, as well as pinpointing and mitigating performance bottlenecks in backend processes.
• Upholding code quality through rigorous code reviews and compliance with coding standards specific to backend development.
• Working closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver exceptional backend solutions that enhance overall product functionality.
• Continuously monitoring backend services/APIs and providing recommendations to improve system performance and reliability.
• Partnering with product managers and UX/UI designers to ensure that backend services effectively support high-quality, reusable user interfaces.
• Staying updated on the latest technologies and trends in backend development, contributing to innovation initiatives within the team.
• Engaging in agile development methodologies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  
  

What You’ll Bring

• Strong proficiency in API development with Java, as well as experience with backend frameworks and technologies.
• Significant experience with backend concepts such as microservices, RESTful APIs, and server-side logic.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing, developing, and optimizing backend systems for large-scale data processing.
• At Mimecast, we leverage the latest technologies, including the AI revolution. Experience with AI tools that enhance productivity is expected.
• A proven ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment, mentoring junior members and enhancing a positive team culture
• Comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience with foundational AWS services, including ALB, ECS, S3, AWS ElastiCache, IAM, and CloudWatch.
• Proven capability in implementing and maintaining Kafka-based event-driven services.
• Experience with both relational and NoSQL databases, along with a solid understanding of database design, optimization, and management.
• Practical experience with Jenkins and the establishment of robust CI/CD pipelines for backend deployments.
