Principal Software Engineer

Data Platforms is an exciting collective of teams spanning product and engineering teams. LSEG Data Platforms provides a range of tools and solutions for managing, accessing, and distributing financial data. They offer various platforms, including the LSEG Data Platform, LSEG DataScope Select, and LSEG DataScope Warehouse. These platforms enable users to access both LSEG's own data and third-party data, with options for real-time, delayed, and historical data delivery!

As a Principal Engineer, you will be implementing the software development strategy for a set of Technology Products and applies business requirements and knowledge of software development lifecycles to guide the development of complex software products or customer solutions.

Role Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:

• Demonstrates an extensive knowledge of technologies and/or thought leadership level of a technology, providing direction, mentoring and advising others on design, development and / or implementation standard methodologies and processes
• Leads projects and promotes an inclusive and open culture.
• Continues to build and demonstrates a breadth of knowledge of various domains within technology, understanding the linkages and dependencies of projects/work and the key senior stakeholders
• Builds and implements technical solution designs and resolves issues
• Supports technical roadmaps for the timely implementation of a technical solution strategy
• Advises stakeholders internally as a software development SME, utilising deep expertise of software development
• Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of how the technology / domain strategy relates to and impacts own and others' work, holding responsibility for the implementation of strategy and culture within teams
• Evaluates how new technology or techniques may better implement the strategy, proposes patterns for its use and leads the development of reference code to set a standard
• Understands LSEG's commercial position in the market and how the product / service / domain fits into the organisation's commercial direction
• Leads the delivery of critical projects, working autonomously and with little direction; may ensure completion of work from other team members, coaching and delegating work when required
• Builds strong relationships with internal and external customers, growing own network and collaborating with other teams.
• Communicates complex / technical information clearly and concisely in an audience appropriate format.
  
  

Qualifications & Experience:

• Deep hands-on experience with Snowflake, including advanced data modeling, performance tuning, and security. SnowPro Core Certification advantageous but not essential.
• Extensive experience in data engineering or analytics engineering, with a track record of building and optimizing complex pipelines in big data environments
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, CI/CD pipelines, and containerisation for data engineering solutions
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and their integration with Snowflake
• Familiarity with GitLab and Agile development methodologies
  
  

Nice to have:

• Knowledge of either Google Big Query or Databricks
• Airflow/DAG Orchestration experience
• Two or more programming languages with proven experience: Python, Java, .NET. Go
