Estate Atlas is on a mission to make global property markets more transparent, accessible, and data-driven. We are a Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) startup providing investors, institutions, and professionals with the accurate and actionable international real estate data needed to make critical decisions. By aggregating and standardising information from a vast array of global sources, we are building the world's leading platform for international real estate intelligence.

The opportunity:

This is more than a job; it's an opportunity to be a foundational member of our technical team. As the Founding Data Engineer, you will be the architect and builder of our most critical asset: our data pipeline. You will have the unique challenge of designing and implementing the systems that ingest, process, and standardise real estate data from over 100 countries. You will be instrumental in solving the complex problem of turning messy, disparate global data into a clean, reliable, and powerful product.

Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include:

1. Work closely with the founder to lead the design, build, and maintain our core data integration and ETL/ELT pipelines from the ground up into our MySQL database.
2. Develop robust connectors to ingest data from a wide variety of sources, including government APIs, central bank databases, and third-party data feeds.
3. Build and manage a scalable, ethical web scraping infrastructure to extract data from public sources like real estate portals and news sites.
4. Implement rigorous data quality, validation, and cleaning processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of our data.
5. Create transformation logic to standardise diverse international data, including handling currency conversions, unit standardisation (e.g., sq ft vs. sq m), and geographical mapping.
6. Play a key role in defining our data acquisition strategy, assessing the feasibility and legality of sourcing data from various channels.
7. Own the data lifecycle from raw extraction to its final, query-ready state in our data warehouse.

Work schedule:

Full-time stipend: 10,000 - 20,000 (performance-based) (paid)

Internship duration:
3months. This position is fully remote

Other Requirements:

What we're looking for:

1. You have proven experience as a data engineer, with a strong track record of building and managing data pipelines.

2. You are highly proficient in Python and its data ecosystem (e.g., Pandas, Polars).

3. You have practical experience with web scraping technologies and libraries (e.g., Scrapy, BeautifulSoup, Playwright) and an understanding of how to do it ethically and effectively.

4. You are an expert in SQL and have hands-on experience with relational databases like MySQL

5. You understand data modelling, data warehousing concepts, and the principles of building scalable systems.

6. You are a pragmatic problem-solver, comfortable with ambiguity, and excited by the challenge of a startup environment.

7. You have excellent communication skills and can articulate complex technical concepts to the team.
