This opening is for an venture-backed, AI-first fintech company redefining how high-volume businesses run their finance operations. Instead of stitching together legacy, manual tools, they are building an intelligent finance operating system that centralises data, automates reconciliation, streamlines payouts and collections, and delivers real-time results.

Position Overview

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be part of the founding engineering team, driving the design and development of high-performance AI/GenAI capabilities that power reconciliation, document understanding, financial classification, and payment behavior intelligence for enterprise finance teams.

You will play a significant part in the AI/ML charter —from research and experimentation to production deployment—bringing deep expertise in applied ML, GenAI, and MLOps/LLMOps to build scalable, reliable, and intelligent systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy scalable AI/GenAI solutions across reconciliation, document understanding, financial classification, and payment intelligence.
• Architect and operationalise ML/LLM features and APIs for core product integrations.
• Write clean, secure, and performant ML/LLM code, ensuring reproducibility, version control, and adherence to MLOps best practices.
• Develop robust evaluation frameworks and optimize models for latency, throughput, and scalability.
• Implement human-in-the-loop learning to continuously refine models based on user interactions.
• Mentor and grow the ML/GenAI team; set high standards for engineering and model quality.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Backend, Data, and DevOps teams to translate product requirements into scalable, production-ready ML systems.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 4–10 years of hands-on experience in Data Science / Machine Learning, with strong foundations in classical ML and Deep Learning.
• 1–2 years of production experience with GenAI, LLMs, AI Agents, or RAG-based systems.
• Proven expertise in ML algorithms, NLP, transformers, embeddings, vector search, and classification methods.
• Strong understanding of MLOps/LLMOps workflows—deployment, monitoring, drift detection, versioning, and CI/CD for ML.
• Proficiency in Python with strong system design and large-scale coding skills (PyTorch/TensorFlow, scikit-learn, pandas, etc.).
• Hands-on experience with semi-structured/unstructured data pipelines and large-scale financial data.

Nice-to-Have

• Familiarity with RAG systems (chunking strategies, prompt engineering, hybrid semantic/keyword search).
• Experience in fintech or enterprise SaaS domains (banking, reconciliation, ERP, accounting, compliance).
• Exposure to observability, automated retraining, and rollback/versioning for ML models.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and distributed systems.
• Contributions to open-source AI/ML projects or published research.
