About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Senior PHP Developer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be a key technical authority, responsible for developing new solutions, maintaining a portfolio of existing websites, and ensuring the reliability of our web properties. You will work across a diverse range of technologies, including modern PHP frameworks, multiple CMS platforms like WordPress and Drupal, and e-commerce systems like Shopify. This is a critical role for our team.

You will not only execute on complex projects but also provide essential support to our Lead Developer, helping to oversee vendor work, establish best practices, and build a robust, in-house technical foundation.

Key Responsibilities

• Full-Stack Development: Develop, customize, and maintain websites and applications using PHP, with a strong focus on CMS platforms including WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla.
• Framework-Based Applications: Build robust, scalable backend services and applications using modern PHP frameworks like Laravel.
• E-commerce Solutions: Integrate and customize e-commerce solutions, particularly on the Shopify platform, including theme development and app integration.
• Website Portfolio Management: Manage a portfolio of WordPress websites, ensuring high levels of performance, availability, and security.
• Proactive Maintenance & Monitoring: Proactively monitor website uptime and performance, implementing fixes and optimizations as needed. You will be responsible for the stability of our managed sites.
• Backup & Migration: Implement and manage robust backup, staging, and deployment workflows. Perform complex content and database migrations between environments safely and efficiently.
• Custom Development: Develop custom WordPress plugins and themes from scratch to meet specific business requirements.
• Front-End Expertise: Write clean, efficient, and well-documented custom JavaScript (ES6+) and create pixel-perfect, responsive websites using modern HTML5 and CSS3.
• Technical Leadership: Act as a senior technical resource, conduct code reviews, and provide guidance to ensure best practices are followed across all projects, including those managed by external vendors.
  
  

Requirements

• Experience: 8+ years of professional experience in PHP development.
• CMS Expertise: Expert-level proficiency in WordPress, including custom plugin/theme development, the WordPress REST API, and performance tuning. Demonstrable experience with Drupal and/or Joomla is also required.
• PHP Frameworks: Strong experience with at least one modern PHP framework such as Laravel or Symfony.
• Front-End Proficiency: Command of front-end technologies: HTML5, CSS3/SASS, JavaScript (ES6+), and responsive design principles.
• Database Skills: Strong knowledge of MySQL/MsSQL, including database design, optimization, and migration.
• DevOps & Infrastructure: Solid understanding of cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure), containerization (Docker), and web server configuration (Apache/Nginx).
• Version Control: Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows (e.g., GitFlow).
• Problem-Solving: A proactive and independent problem-solver who can own tasks from concept to completion.
