
Overview
NETGEAR is looking for a Senior Desktop Agent Developer to drive the development of our desktop clients (Windows and macOS) for a next-generation security platform. In this role, you will design and build secure, performant, and user-friendly desktop applications that enable access to critical cybersecurity features, including Secure Access Service Edge (SASE), VPN, Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), and other advanced network security capabilities.
As a Senior Desktop Application Developer, you will work closely with backend, security, and product teams to deliver a seamless desktop experience integrated with NETGEAR’s security services. You will play a key role in ensuring that our applications meet high standards for security, usability, and performance across both platforms.
This role will require 3 days in the Bangalore Office.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain secure and high-performance desktop applications for Windows and macOS as part of NETGEAR’s security platform.
Implement advanced networking features such as VPN connectivity, secure tunneling, and ZTNA access using native platform capabilities and VPN protocols like IPSec or WireGuard.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including backend engineers, product managers, UX/UI designers, and QA to define and implement desktop features.
Ensure applications follow security best practices, protect user data, and comply with OS-specific guidelines for application signing, sandboxing, and secure installation.
Write clean, modular, and testable code; contribute to automated testing and CI/CD pipelines for desktop.
Conduct code reviews, mentor junior developers, and uphold strong engineering standards across platforms.
Stay current with the latest trends in desktop application development, networking, and endpoint cybersecurity.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
5–8 years of professional experience in desktop application development for Windows (C#, .NET, Win32, WPF) and/or macOS (Objective-C, Swift, SwiftUI, AppKit).
Hands-on experience with Bash and PowerShell scripting frameworks.
Hands-on experience with desktop networking APIs and system-level frameworks, including Windows Filtering Platform (WFP), WinINet, or macOS Network Extension framework.
Experience integrating certificate-based authentication, biometrics, or OS-level security APIs.
Familiarity with VPN protocols such as WireGuard or IPSec, and experience implementing secure tunnels or endpoint network clients.
Proven experience with application packaging and deployment tools (e.g., MSI, ClickOnce, Apple Notarization, DMG installers) for both enterprise and public distribution.
Strong understanding of desktop security practices, including secure storage, encryption, sandboxing, keychain/credential store integration, and user authentication.
Experience working with backend APIs and service-based architectures.
Proficient in debugging, profiling, and performance optimization for desktop applications on Windows and macOS.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in agile and cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications (optional):
Familiarity with cross-platform development frameworks such as Electron, Qt, or Flutter Desktop.
Experience with enterprise deployment and endpoint management solutions such as Intune and others
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing for desktop applications (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, TeamCity), including crash reporting and telemetry via platforms like Sentry, App Center, or Crashlytics for desktop.
