Senior Software Engineer - Backend

Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer for Microsoft Teams Triage Services, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems to support critical customer needs. Microsoft Teams supports over 300 million daily active users globally and serves as the primary tool for collaboration, productivity, and communication for work and life. It also provides a platform for ISVs to build and extend applications and agents to the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead and strengthen the critical area of feeds and notifications, empowering users to efficiently triage messaging, app, and agentic content.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions that drive productivity and engagement across Microsoft Teams’ global and diverse user base. Responsibilities

• Architect and implement backend services with state-of-the-art frameworks and technologies.
• Optimize existing systems for enhanced performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Design and maintain APIs to enable robust integration with frontend and partner services to deliver seamless end-to-end user experiences.
• Develop tools for monitoring, analytics, and recovery to improve service quality and resiliency.
• Work collaboratively with product managers, partner engineers, leaders and data scientists to deliver impactful features.
• Ensure all backend systems comply with security and privacy standards
  
  

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages such as C#, Java, Python, or Node.js.Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and system architecture.
• Experience working with SQL/MySQL and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with high-scale services and RESTful APIs on cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and related infrastructure.Hands-on experience with debugging customer issues and managing livesite mitigations.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  
  

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
• OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
• OR equivalent experience.
• Bonus: Experience with large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and big data analytics.
