Job Description

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Software Engineer & Open Source Leader to join our Open Source Program Office (OSPO) team. As a seasoned developer with a passion for open source communities, you will be responsible for leading by example in the development process, mentoring junior developers, and fostering positive relationships within open source ecosystems. Your technical expertise in AI/ML, Python, Golang, Kubernetes, OpenStack, and related technologies will be instrumental in shaping the direction of our open source projects and products.

Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership: Lead a team of developers in their open source contributions, providing guidance on best practices, coding standards, and code reviews.
• Community Engagement: Engage with open source communities to build relationships, resolve issues, and drive adoption of our software solutions.
• Mentorship & Coaching: Mentor junior developers, sharing your expertise and experience to help them grow professionally.
• Collaboration: Coordinate with internal development and product management teams to ensure seamless integration of open source contributions into our products and services.
• Code Quality: Ensure that all open source contributions meet high standards of code quality, following best practices for testing, documentation, and maintainability.
• Software Architecture: Leverage your expertise in distributed systems, APIs, and cloud native architectures to make the best decisions on code and systems architectures.
  
  

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 7+ years in software development with significant experience in Python and Golang.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
• Experience and understanding of how to leverage AI-powered co-development tools such as Cursor IDE, Claude Code, Cline, Aider.Chat or similar
• Strong understanding of open source best practices, including code quality, testing, and documentation.
• Bring a deep understanding of scale-out cloud-native architectures such as parallel computing (e.g., goroutines), Kubernetes clusters, and distributed systems.
• Deep experience with all forms of APIs.
• Utilize Docker and Kubernetes for deploying, managing, and scaling microservices.
• In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes, including:
• Cluster API: Expertise in using declarative APIs and tooling to simplify provisioning, upgrading, and operating multiple Kubernetes clusters.
• CNI (Container Network Interface): Familiarity with different CNI plugins like OpenSDN/Tungsten Fabric/Contrail, Calico, Cilium (eBPF/XDP), and others for network connectivity in Kubernetes clusters.
• CSI (Container Storage Interface): Understanding of storage orchestration and management in Kubernetes using CSI drivers, particularly with Ceph.
• Telemetry: Experience with monitoring and observability tools to collect and analyze telemetry data from Kubernetes clusters, preferably with Prometheus and Grafana.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills.
• Passion to thrive in a fast-paced, fluid environment.
  

Highly Desirable

• Participation in open source projects as a contributor or maintainer.
• Experience with Agile development methodologies and version control systems like Git.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Strong understanding of AI infrastructure: inferencing, Agentic workflows, autonomous AI agents, the Model Context Protocol (MCP), serverless AI functions, and related.
• Polyglot with little or no bias for specific programming languages.
