Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Software Developer with 3-5 years of experience, to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology and innovation, with a strong ability to think non-linearly and approach problems from first principles. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects that span multiple domains, all under one roof, contributing to our vision of a sustainable future.

This could be either a regular position or a 11- month contractual engagement, renewable on mutual consent, with the potential to turn into a regular position over time.

Activities and Tasks

Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Developing and maintaining high-quality web applications using Python frameworks such as Django or Flask;
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather and define requirements for new features and functionalities;
• Designing and implementing scalable and efficient code that meets project requirements and follows best practices;
• Performing code reviews to ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to coding standards;
• Troubleshooting and debugging issues, and providing timely resolutions to technical challenges;
• Optimizing application performance and scalability through performance tuning and code optimization techniques;
• Staying updated on emerging technologies and industry trends, and incorporating new tools and techniques into development processes as appropriate;
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of development processes and methodologies;
• Providing support to other IIHS activities including academics, research, training, practice, operations and others;
• Participating in all activities of Institution-Building at IIHS; carrying out tasks as assigned by IIHS; and travelling on IIHS work within or outside the country as and when needed.

Structure and Reporting

The software developer will report to the Manager – Information Technology at IIHS and will be required to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of internal teams and external individuals/organizations, and students.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate should have:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field;
• 3-5 years of experience in software development, with a focus on Python web application development;
• Proficiency in Python programming language and experience with Python frameworks such as Django or Flask;
• Strong understanding of web development concepts, including HTTP, RESTful APIs, and MVC architecture;
• Experience with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and JavaScript frameworks/libraries (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js);
• Familiarity with database systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB;
• Strong understanding of software development best practices, including version control (e.g., Git), code reviews, and unit testing;
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform;
• Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes;
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban;
• Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment processes;
• Contributions to open-source projects or involvement in the developer community;
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail;
• The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment;
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

This could be either a regular position or a 11- month contractual engagement, renewable on mutual consent, with the potential to turn into a regular position over time. This offer is on an exclusive basis, which implies that other professional assignments (whether compensated or not) that bear a potential conflict of interest with IIHS cannot be undertaken.

Location

This position is based in Bengaluru and may entail travel to other locations in India.
