About the role:

Description: As a Senior Backend Engineer (SDE-3) at Phyllo, you will play a critical role in architecting and scaling the core systems that power our data aggregation platform. You will drive major product and platform initiatives end-to-end, influence engineering best practices, and mentor other engineers. Your work will have a direct impact on millions of creators and the companies that rely on Phyllo for mission-critical data. This is a high-impact, high-ownership role for someone who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments and enjoys solving complex distributed-systems challenges.

What you'll be expected to do:

• Own, architect, and deliver large backend features and subsystems end-to-end.
• Design scalable, backward-compatible REST/GraphQL APIs that support diverse internal and external clients.
• Lead architectural decisions for distributed systems, data pipelines, and service-to-service communication patterns.
• Manage, tune, and evolve distributed systems deployed in the cloud, ensuring fault tolerance and resilience.
• Prototype, experiment, and validate new approaches to enhance performance or expand product capabilities.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, data, and platform engineering teams to drive impact.
• Mentor and coach mid-level engineers, elevating team capabilities and technical depth 1
  
  
  

You’ll be a good fit if:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• 5-8 years of experience in backend development.
• Deep understanding of architecting distributed systems, event-driven designs, and microservices
• Experience with Python programming languages. Knowledge on Reactjs is a plus
• Detailed problem-solving approach and knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis.
• Demonstrated ability to write clean, extensible, highly maintainable code.
• Experience working in hyper-growth or rapidly scaling startup environments.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to write technical specs, design docs, and RFCs.
• Proven ability to decompose complex problems into scalable, modular services.
  
  
  

• Passion for designing and deploying high performance, highly scalable distributed systems with extensive monitoring and logging practices.
• Passion for driving continual improvement initiatives on engineering standard methodologies like coding, testing or monitoring.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write detailed technical documents.
• Cross-collaborating with multiple teams to drive impact.
• Understanding of distributed storage and database systems (SQL or NoSQL).
• Ability to decompose complex problems into clean, extensible, performant services and systems.
