About The TeamThe Communications Intelligence Engineering team builds the data and machine learning foundations that power Wayfair’s customer communications ecosystem. We enable intelligent decisioning, personalization, experimentation, and performance measurement across marketing and lifecycle channels. Our systems operate at scale and directly influence customer engagement, retention, and lifetime value.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems and data pipelines supporting customer communications intelligence.
- Develop and optimize batch and real-time processing workflows using modern data platforms (e.g., BigQuery, Spark, Airflow).
- Productionize machine learning models and scoring services that power personalization, prioritization, and send-time optimization.
- Partner with Data Science, Product, and CRM stakeholders to translate business problems into scalable technical solutions.
- Ensure high availability, performance, and observability of systems (e.g., SLA tracking, latency monitoring, data quality validation).
- Contribute to experimentation frameworks (A/B testing) and support accurate performance measurement.
- Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and operational incident resolution.
- Continuously improve platform reliability, scalability, and engineering standards.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- 2+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or ML platform development.
- Strong proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Java, or Scala preferred).
- Solid SQL skills and experience working with large-scale data warehouses.
- Familiarity with distributed systems, ETL/ELT pipelines, and workflow orchestration frameworks.
- Understanding of ML lifecycle concepts including model training, evaluation, and deployment.
- Strong analytical thinking and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working on marketing tech, CRM, or customer engagement platforms.
- Exposure to feature stores or ML serving infrastructure.
- Experience with experimentation platforms and metrics-driven product development.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and modern data tooling.
