Job Description Summary:
What you need to know about the role- We are looking for Senior Data Scientist with experience managing large portfolios to develop Segmentation and Customer Journey within PayPal’s Global Collections Strategy team. This role will support various products, including PayPal Credit, Global Pay Later, Digital Wallet and Merchant Lending. The team focuses on developing treatments to minimize losses and operating expenses while improving customer experience. Meet our team PayPal’s Global Collections Strategy team is responsible for maintaining a customer-centric approach to collections while maximizing Net Present Value and minimizing regulatory risk. The team works closely with key stakeholders - including Business Units, Product, Risk and the Modelling team - to align with and influence strategic priorities. Additionally, they collaborate with Technology and Operations partners to develop innovative, personalized experiences using the most effective channels and treatments. All initiatives are executed with the necessary approvals from Legal and Compliance partners to ensure a seamless and compliant customer experience.

• Lead end-to-end analytical projects, including defining goals, estimating impact, setting workflows, and managing timelines independently.
• Ensure collections models are effective and relevant; explore use of underwriting models and external data sources to enhance collections performance.
• Design and implement segmentation strategies to improve outcomes across digital contact, skip strategy, forbearance, legal, and recovery treatments.
• Drive usage of AI / ML / Gen AI: next best action journeys
• Continuously benchmark internal and external practices to refine strategy, treatment timing, content, and frequency across products and markets.
• Partner with modelling team and external consultants to develop, implement and refine predictive models that enhance the collections strategies.
• Evaluate various approaches and deploy best practices like uplift-based prioritization approach, value at risk (VAR) etc.
  
  
  

Your day to day

• Own the end-to-end performance of a collections portfolio, balancing default rates, operational cost, customer experience, and regulatory compliance.
• Day-to-day duties include data analysis, monitoring and forecasting, creating the logic for strategies, collaborate with ML engineering, product and technology teams on requirements, communicating with global stakeholders to ensure we deliver the best possible customer experience while meeting loss rate targets.
• Works independently and proficiently. Accountable for own results. Reviews are mainly for consultation and sharing ideas.
• Works on multiple assignments simultaneously and in all areas of a standard project in the area of responsibility.
• Work closely with cross-border business partners and stakeholders to determine how to design analysis, testing, and measurement approaches that will significantly improve our ability to understand and address emerging business issues.
• Produce intelligent, scalable, and automated solutions by leveraging Data Science skills. 
• Work closely with Technology teams on development of new capabilities to define requirements and priorities based on data analysis and business knowledge.
  
  
  

What Do You Need To Bring-

• Strong analytical ability to quickly estimate, design, and execute complex analyses and build business cases across tradeoffs.
• Proficient in Excel, statistical tools, SQL, Python; experience with large datasets.
• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of related professional experience or master’s degree with 4+ years of related experience.
• Excellent communication and influence skills to collaborate cross-functionally, present insights clearly, and align teams on strategies.
• Proactive, energetic team player with a “can-do” attitude, able to perform under pressure and adapt to change.
• Self-starter who identifies and resolves issues independently and recommends policy or process improvements.
