Staff Software Engineer, APAC

Location: Pune office 4-5 days a week

Position Summary

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will collaborate closely with Principal Engineers, Product Managers, and Designers to lead complex, high-impact projects that drive innovation across our platform.

You’ll be at the forefront of building customer-centric features that seamlessly integrate human ingenuity and AI-driven automation, delivering scalable, intelligent solutions for both our security researcher community and the thousands of organisations that rely on HackerOne to secure their digital assets.
As a Staff Engineer, you bring a blend of technical excellence, architectural vision, and business alignment. You’re someone who identifies opportunities for platform evolution, improves engineering-wide patterns and practices, and mentors teams to raise the technical bar across the organisation.

In this role, you’ll:

• Lead the design and delivery of secure, high-performance software that enhances the bug bounty experience for both customers and researchers.

• Work hands-on with systems that automate triage workflows, integrate AI to surface actionable insights, and continuously evolve to meet the demands of modern security teams.

• Translate insights from both customers and researchers into product improvements that reduce response times, increase visibility, and fortify attack surfaces.

What You Will Do

• First 30 Days:

  • Begin your journey at HackerOne by joining your squad, onboarding to our technology stack, and connecting with fellow Hackeronies across functions.

  • Spend time learning about our products, processes, and culture - especially how we empower our community of security researchers and customers.

  By Day 60:

  • Become actively involved in designing and building a meaningful feature or component within an ongoing project.

  • Start contributing to technical discussions and begin building relationships with internal stakeholders and our broader community.

  By Day 90:

  • Collaborate with your team to define a strategic problem area, propose a solution, and gain buy-in for a project plan.

  • Begin executing the plan alongside engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver tangible outcomes.

  Beyond 90 Days:

  • Identify high-impact projects and opportunities that align with HackerOne’s mission and customer needs.

  • Join or lead initiatives to solve these problems through well-executed solutions - repeat and scale your impact across teams.

  In Your Day-to-Day Role, You Will:

  • Lead and drive projects in partnership with cross-functional teams, including stakeholders, designers, and product leaders.

  • Build, ship, and maintain reliable, scalable, and performant features.

  • Work closely with your squad to deliver measurable results aligned with key company and team objectives.

  • Contribute to cross-squad technical initiatives, improving shared architecture, practices, and developer experience.

  • Mentor and be mentored - supporting continuous learning, technical growth, and a strong culture of engineering excellence.

Minimum Qualifications

• You are, first and foremost, a tech-savvy leader who thrives on building innovative solutions and working collaboratively with people and teams.

• You enjoy helping build teams and fostering a culture of innovation, while driving cross-functional collaboration and successful project execution across multiple teams.

• You champion initiatives that push architectural boundaries, including those focused on automation, scalability, and AI integration.

• You bring 10+ years of software development experience within a modern SaaS environment.

• You’re proficient in dynamically typed, OOP languages such as JavaScript, Python, or Ruby.

• You have 5+ years of practical SQL experience (PostgreSQL preferred).

• You’ve worked extensively with cloud platforms (7+ years, AWS preferred), enabling scalable and automated infrastructure.

• You have hands-on experience with React JS or similar modern front-end frameworks.

• You’ve led end-to-end technical projects through all phases of the software development lifecycle, and are now looking to apply that experience toward building intelligent, automated, and AI-enhanced security products.

• Must be able to work from our Pune office 4-5 days a week.
