Who are you:

You are a highly skilled software engineer and AI enthusiast who’s passionate about building intelligent systems using the latest in Generative AI. You have hands-on experience building and deploying LLM-powered applications and love exploring new ways to apply AI to real-world problems. You thrive in ambiguous environments, move fast from prototype to production, and stay up-to-date with AI trends and tooling.

In this role, you will:

• Design, build, and deploy LLM-powered applications using modern AI frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Haystack.
• Develop RAG pipelines, agentic AI workflows, and prompt engineering strategies to support scalable AI solutions.
• Build robust, scalable APIs and microservices to power intelligent user-facing features.
• Work closely with product and engineering teams to move quickly from concept to MVP, with an iterative and agile approach.
• Leverage vector databases (e.g., FAISS, Pinecone, Weaviate) and embeddings to support retrieval-based AI systems.
• Collaborate with data engineers to integrate large-scale datasets and optimize model performance.
• Ensure best practices around software development, version control, CI/CD, and model deployment.
• Explore and experiment with tools like OpenAI, Cursor, Claude, Hugging Face, Anthropic, and open-source LLMs for optimal use cases.
• Stay ahead of trends in GenAI and contribute to internal knowledge sharing and innovation culture.
• Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
  
  
  

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related Engineering field.
• 4+ years of software development experience.
• 3+ years working with large datasets, data pipelines, and distributed systems.
• Proven experience building and deploying Generative AI applications.
• Strong programming skills in Python or similar.
• Experience with LLMs, vector databases, GenAI frameworks, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals, scalable systems, and SDLC best practices.
• Experience designing and developing APIs and backend services.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially within cross-functional teams.
  
  
  

An ideal candidate also has:

• Experience working with open-source LLMs (Mistral, LLaMA, Falcon, etc.) and customizing/tuning models.
• Hands-on experience with fine-tuning, embedding generation, and custom model orchestration.
• Familiarity with MLOps, Docker, Kubernetes, and model deployment workflows.
• Knowledge of AI safety, observability, and guardrail implementation.
• Experience in rapid prototyping environments and shipping 0→1 AI features or products.
• Background in search, recommendation systems, or knowledge graphs is a plus.
