AI Engineer / Co-founder

About the role

This is not a standard “job.” It’s an invitation to become a Partner and Co-founder, working with Australian founders that have a proven track record in running successful businesses in varied sectors.

Established in 2006, the company now wishes to build the AI Division from the ground up – this means you will be hands on in setting engineering standards, making early stack decisions, developing and launching the first product(s) and hiring and managing the AI Tech team.

Key Requirements:

You must be proficient in either of the lanes mentioned below:

Lane A - AI Product Development and Delivery:

• Delivered an AI/ML feature or product to production with measurable outcomes
• Experienced in LLM, retrieval/RAG, and basic evaluation/guardrails.

Lane B - Systems + AI projects:

• Delivered non-AI production systems (backend/data/distributed) with SLOs/observability.
• Completed credible AI projects (OSS/research/prototypes) showing model use, retrieval and a simple evaluation harness (offline or online).

Mandatory Skills:

• Strong in Python (FastAPI, Pydantic, async) and/or TypeScript/Node; solid engineering fundamentals.
• CI/CD, containers (Docker; K8s or managed), observability (traces/metrics/logs), and cost awareness.
• Cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure), secrets/KMS, and IaC (Terraform or CDK).
• Clear written communication (ADRs/design notes), pragmatic decision-making, bias to ship.

Desirable Skills:

• Vector DBs (pgvector/FAISS/Milvus), eval/guardrail frameworks (Ragas/DeepEval or equivalent).
• Event-driven design (Kafka/RabbitMQ), caching (Redis).
• GPU-aware inference (vLLM/TGI), Triton, or Ray.
