Applied AI Engineer

We're looking for a Founding Applied AI Engineer to join our team and play a pivotal role in building the next generation of recruitment automation. This role provides a unique opportunity to architect and implement cutting-edge multi-modal AI solutions that will fundamentally transform how recruiters discover, engage, and hire top talent. The role is based out of Chennai but if you are unable to relocate, we are open to discussing a remote setup for the right talent.

Who are we?

Kula is an all-in-one recruitment automation platform that automates the entire hiring process for recruiters so they can move faster while hiring the right candidates. Think co-pilot for recruiters. We have seen first-hand how using Kula increases recruiter yield by at least 50% and helps build a predictable pipeline while delivering a great candidate experience.

How you'll be contributing to our AI team

Build the AI foundation of Kula with us and take it to the next stage of intelligent automation. You will be architecting and implementing AI solutions that can handle the complexity of modern hiring while maintaining exceptional accuracy and user experience. As a founding member, you'll have significant influence over our AI strategy and technical direction.

What does it take?

Core Experience & Mindset

• You have 4+ years of applied AI/ML engineering experience, preferably in a startup environment where you've shipped AI products
• You have a passion for building AI products that delight customers and approach your work with a strong product mindset - you don't expect everything to be spelled out in technical specifications
• You make data-driven decisions and have a strong sense of ownership on your deliverables, continuously improving models and systems even after launch
• You have great communication skills and can articulate complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership and clients
• You love working autonomously and are open to feedback
• You believe in and follow AI/ML best practices, including proper model evaluation, versioning, and monitoring
  
  

Technical Skills

• You have strong experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and fine-tuning techniques for domain-specific applications
• You have hands-on experience with multi-modal AI agents combining text, vision, and audio
• You have hands-on experience with Machine Learning/Deep Learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.)
• You have strong experience with vector databases and semantic search systems
• You have experience building recommendation systems and personalization algorithms
• You have solid understanding of model training pipelines, MLOps, and deployment at scale
• You have experience with cloud platforms like AWS for AI workloads
• You enjoy writing clean, testable code and building robust AI systems
  
  

Some extra skills that would be great

• You have experience building AI-powered SaaS applications
• You have experience with Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) and knowledge graph construction
• You have worked with real-time AI inference systems handling high throughput
• You have experience with A/B testing and experimentation for AI features
• You have worked on conversational AI or chatbot systems
• You have experience with data warehouses like Snowflake or Databricks for ML feature engineering
• You have contributed to open-source AI projects or published research
