What’s The RoleAs a Data Engineer – S/4 Analytics, you will support Shell’s NextGen ERP Programme, a multi‑year initiative transitioning the company to SAP S/4HANA. This transformation aims to simplify and modernize core transactional processes across the enterprise. You will help build the data and analytics foundation required for standardized, end‑to‑end processes in areas such as Upstream, Integrated Gas, Downstream, Procurement, Finance, and Logistics. Your work will enable improved reliability, efficiency, productivity, and safety, ensuring Shell’s future ERP landscape delivers high‑quality data and actionable insights.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Operate in alignment with Shell IDE’s standard procedures and work instructions, under the direction of the Technical Delivery Lead and Design Authority.
- Collaborate closely with Business Analysts to convert business requirements into application designs and developments that adhere to S4 Extensibility Design standards.
- Support the design, coding, and modification of technical solutions to meet project objectives.
- Diagnose and resolve issues in existing software to enhance functionality, performance, and stability.
- Provide recommendations for resolving bugs and technical problems to improve software reliability.
- Keep abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously build expertise and contribute to innovative solutions.
- Serve as a key point of contact for identifying product gaps and improvement opportunities, documenting them thoroughly, and channeling them—along with value cases—to the appropriate SAP stakeholders (Oil & Gas Consortium, CIO Office, Architecture teams, or other SAP engagement groups as needed).
- 5–8 years of Data Engineering experience in S/4HANA implementations
- 3+ years of experience in S/4 Embedded Analytics, Datasphere modeling, and integration
- Strong expertise in CDS (analytical CDS, multidimensional reporting, annotations, associations/joins, aggregations, roles & authorizations)
- Experience with ABAP RAP for analytics, AMDP, and three‑tier development
- Developing CDS extraction views with Change Data Capture and ODP extraction
- Strong understanding of Datasphere concepts, including replication flows, local/remote tables, graphical & SQL views, data access control, analytical models, and exposing models to SAC
- Hands‑on experience working in Datasphere and creating task chains
- Good understanding of entity relationship modeling, OLAP modeling, LSA+ architecture, star schema, historical trend reporting, and time dimensions
- Skilled in debugging and performance optimization for CDS and analytical reports
- Strong foundation in data warehousing concepts
- Ability to perform code quality reviews and provide feedback to colleagues
- Strong analytical skills, stakeholder management, and teamwork
- Good communication skills and attention to detail
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
- Design Thinking mindset with lean process orientation
- Flexibility to work in shifts if required
