🔷 About the Role
Deloitte is looking for a transformational Data Engineer to lead large‑scale cloud, data, and AI modernization programs. This is a strategic leadership position requiring deep technical architecture expertise, strong consulting acumen, and the ability to influence C‑suite clients.
As a Director, you will define data platform strategies, own delivery outcomes, drive innovation, and lead multi‑geography teams. You will shape Deloitte’s Data & AI offerings, grow key accounts, and architect solutions leveraging Microsoft Azure, Databricks, SQL, and advanced data engineering frameworks.
🔷 Key Responsibilities
1️⃣ Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Define the data engineering strategy, operating models, and modernization roadmaps for enterprise clients.
- Lead cloud transformation programs leveraging Azure Data Platform and Databricks Lakehouse architecture.
- Drive innovation through accelerators, reusable frameworks, automation, and best practices.
- Contribute to practice growth—solution development, capability building, and go‑to‑market initiatives.
2️⃣ Architecture & Technical Excellence
- Provide architectural oversight for large, complex data ecosystems across Azure services (ADF, Synapse, ADLS, Azure SQL, Functions, Purview).
- Guide the design of ETL/ELT pipelines, batch/streaming integrations, Delta Lake patterns, and performance‑optimized SQL workloads.
- Ensure technical integrity, scalability, and security across all solutions.
- Conduct architecture reviews, maturity assessments, and cloud optimization strategies.
3️⃣ Delivery Leadership & Governance
- Oversee multi‑tower, multi‑geography delivery teams (300+ across onsite/offshore models).
- Own program governance, quality, SLAs, risk mitigation, and client stakeholder relationships.
- Drive operational excellence through DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, cost optimization, and monitoring frameworks.
- Mentor Senior Managers, Architects, and Engineering Leads across projects.
4️⃣ Client Advisory & Executive Engagement
- Serve as a trusted advisor to C‑suite: CTO, CIO, CDO, and Chief Architect teams.
- Translate complex business challenges into actionable cloud & data strategies.
- Lead consulting engagements, architecture workshops, and executive steering committees.
- Influence long-term client partnerships and identify opportunities for expansion.
5️⃣ Business Development & Practice Growth
- Lead solutioning for RFPs, large deals, and transformation programs.
- Build proposals, construct delivery models, and estimate multi‑year programs.
- Support Deloitte leadership in scaling the Data & AI practice through hiring, training, and thought leadership.
- Represent Deloitte in conferences, industry forums, and innovation councils.
🔷 Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills
- 10+ years in data engineering, with at least 5+ years in senior leadership roles.
- Deep, hands-on architectural expertise in Microsoft Azure data ecosystem:
- ADF, Synapse, ADLS Gen2, Azure SQL, SQL MI, Azure Functions, Purview, Event Hub.
- Extensive experience with Databricks, including PySpark, Delta Lake, streaming, notebooks, and job clusters.
- Strong command of SQL, data modeling, optimization, and large-scale data warehouse modernization.
- Expertise in lake house architecture, medallion frameworks, governance, and security patterns.
- Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and data observability tools.
Leadership & Consulting Skills
- Proven track record leading large delivery programs ($5M–$30M+).
- Strong client leadership, advisory, and communication skills.
- Experience interacting with C‑suite executives and influencing decisions.
- Ability to mentor and grow high‑performing engineering and architecture teams.
- Strong business acumen—budgeting, P&L awareness, estimating, and forecasting.
🔷 Preferred Qualifications
- Azure certifications: AZ‑305, DP‑203, AZ‑400, or cloud architect credentials.
- Experience in AI/ML platforms, MLOps, and Databricks Unity Catalog.
- Exposure to multi-cloud transformation programs (AWS or GCP).
- Domain expertise in BFSI, retail, healthcare, telecom, or manufacturing.
- Global consulting experience with Fortune 500 clients.
