Overview
Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) / Senior Data Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing and optimizing databases, both relational and non-relational databases. This role requires a proactive individual who can ensure the performance, availability, and security of our databases while also contributing to the design and implementation of data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Software Delivery
- Manage, monitor, and maintain databases across multiple environments, including AWS RDS, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Design, implement, and maintain database schemas, indexes, and complex queries to optimize performance and ensure data integrity.
- Develop and implement database backup, recovery, and archiving strategies.
- Perform regular database patching and upgrades to ensure systems are up to date with the latest security and performance enhancements.
- Collaborate with development teams to design and optimize database architectures, queries, and indexing strategies.
- Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues, implementing tuning and optimization techniques as needed.
- Ensure database security by implementing best practices for access control, encryption, and auditing.
- Develop and maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and processes.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior DBAs and data engineers.
- Stay current with emerging database technologies and industry trends to continuously improve our data infrastructure.
- Participate in business process re-engineering
- Assess value, develop cases and prioritize stories, epics and themes with acceptance criteria to ensure focus on those with maximum value that are aligned with product strategy
- Providing support during User Acceptance/Integration Testing
- Walkthrough the User Manual/ Production User Verification scripts with users
- Proactively identify issues and actions
- Monitor and remediate issues and actions from audits
- Awareness of the regulatory world and knowledge of AML, Fraud, Screening, Data Quality needs and ensuring these are catered for in the functional design
- Coordinate with resources and teams across different location

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience as a Database Administrator with a focus on AWS RDS, RDBMS, and NoSQL databases.
- Strong experience with relational databases such as Oracle & PostgreSQL.
- Proficiency in NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB.
- Hands-on experience with AWS RDS and related AWS services.
- Expertise in SQL and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell).
- In-depth knowledge of database design, indexing, and query optimization techniques.
- Experience with database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
- Familiarity with database security best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure
- Experience in creating REST API documentation using Swagger and YAML or similar tools desirable
- Experience with Unix, Linux Operating Systems
- Relevant experience of 6-10 years
- Banking/Fintech experience mandatory
- Trade Finance domain experience preferred
- Awareness and understanding of the Group's business strategy and model appropriate to the role
- Awareness and understanding of the wider business, economic and market environment in which the Group operates.
- Responsible for executing within set processes

- The ability to interpret the Group's financial information, identify key issues based on this information and put in place appropriate controls and measures.
