Lead Android Developer

As a Lead Android Developer, you will deliver world-class products while driving innovation across the team and organization. You will stay ahead of industry trends, research emerging technologies, and proactively enhance product functionality, user experience, and development speed.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Build for All: Develop multi-form factor apps (phones, tablets, TVs, and interactive panels) that work seamlessly both offline and online, ensuring accessibility for learners everywhere.
• Push Boundaries: Integrate cutting-edge technologies like Jetpack Compose, LLM-driven features, AR/VR, and AI/ML to deliver immersive learning experiences.
• Architect Scalable Systems: Design future-proof systems (e.g., MVVM, Clean Architecture) tailored to handle complex and evolving challenges.
• Shape the Product Vision: Partner closely with Product and Design teams to translate user needs into scalable, high-impact technical strategies.
• Mentor and Elevate: Develop engineers into product thinkers—nurturing a culture of curiosity, rapid experimentation, and data-driven decisions.
• Engineer for Extreme Performance: Optimise apps to be ultra-responsive, resource-efficient, and resilient, even on low-end Android devices.
• Invent New Solutions: Tackle challenges with no standard playbook—using deep research, creativity, and first-principles thinking to build groundbreaking solutions.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Experience:

7+ years of experience in Android development, with product building and team management experience.

Technical Mastery:

• Expertise in Kotlin, Java, and modern Android frameworks (e.g., Coroutines, Flows, Dagger/Hilt).
• Hands-on experience across multiple development stacks, including native Android, Flutter, and React Native.
• Deep understanding of Android application lifecycle and experience navigating multiple release cycles.
• Strong grasp of Android internals—memory management, background processing, modular app design.
• Proficiency with RESTful APIs, offline storage, threading, and performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience building and developing with LLM
• Proven experience building AI/ML-powered features, integrating LLMs, or crafting AR/VR-enabled applications.
• Familiarity with version control (Git), unit testing, and continuous integration best practices.

Product-Driven Engineer:

• Obsession with user-centric design—you instinctively ask “Why?” before “How?”.
• Experience in A/B testing, analytics, and feature experimentation to validate ideas rapidly.
• Rapid prototyper with a tinkerer’s mindset—comfortable experimenting across a range of Android devices and form factors.

Collaborative Visionary:

• Inspire cross-functional teams (Product, UX, Data Science) to align on ambitious goals.
• Advocate for technology choices that drive measurable business outcomes—reducing churn, boosting retention, and unlocking new markets.

Good to Have:

• Prior experience building educational technology products.
• Knowledge of MDM solutions for schools or large-scale deployments.
• Familiarity with cloud messaging APIs and push notifications.
• Strong understanding of UI/UX design principles.
