Linux/Ubuntu L3 System Administrator / Engineer
Role Overview
The L3 Linux/Ubuntu Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining mission‑critical Linux infrastructure. This includes advanced troubleshooting, performance tuning, automation, and ensuring system security and availability. The role requires deep expertise in Linux (especially Ubuntu) and the ability to resolve complex issues independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain Linux server infrastructure (Ubuntu and other distributions).
- Ensure system performance, availability, and security across production and non‑production environments.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolve complex server, network, and application issues.
- Perform kernel upgrades, OS patching, package management, and system hardening.
- Implement system enhancements and optimizations to improve efficiency.
- Automate repetitive tasks using Bash, Python, or Ansible.
- Configure and manage LVM, RAID, iSCSI, and networking concepts.
- Monitor system performance using enterprise tools like Nagios, Zabbix, or Prometheus.
- Conduct root cause analysis for critical incidents and lead resolution efforts.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional IT teams to ensure seamless integration of Linux systems.
- Maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- 7–12 years of experience in Linux system administration (Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS, Oracle Linux).
- Strong knowledge of Ubuntu server management and enterprise Linux environments.
- Expertise in performance tuning, security hardening, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with virtualization (KVM, VMware), containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) for Linux workloads.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (Bash, Python, Ansible).
- Solid understanding of networking protocols, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Ability to work independently and lead critical incident resolution.
- Certifications: RHCE, LFCS, LPIC‑3, Ubuntu Professional.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Exposure to configuration management tools (Puppet, Chef, SaltStack).
