Role Overview

Were looking for a Principal Software Engineer who thrives at the intersection of machine learning, deep learning, and natural language understanding to solve real-world search relevance challenges using Generative AI. If you're passionate about addressing lexical gaps, enhancing semantic text understanding, and overcoming data sparsity, this is your opportunity to lead innovation in intelligent search systems.

Youll be building solutions that go beyond traditional keyword search, working on cutting-edge systems that understand user intent and optimize ranking in high-scale environments.

What Youll Do

• Architect and implement semantic search and ranking systems that bridge the lexical gap using deep neural models and embeddings.
• Tackle challenges in sparse data environments by designing robust generalization strategies using pretrained models and knowledge distillation.
• Apply advanced NLP and LLM techniques to develop and refine query understanding, document retrieval, and ranking pipelines.
• Work on context-aware and intent-based search to improve user satisfaction across products.
• Collaborate with applied scientists, product managers, and engineers to translate research into production-grade systems.
• Evaluate model performance using both offline metrics (e.g., NDCG, MAP) and online A/B testing for continuous improvement.
• Drive innovations in recommendation systems by building hybrid models combining collaborative filtering with semantic understanding.
  
  

Who You Are:

• 36 years of experience in Search/NLP/Machine Learning/Recommendation Systems.
• Strong foundation in ML/DL algorithms (classification, ranking, embeddings, transformers).
• Solid understanding of challenges like lexical gap, polysemy/synonymy, and semantic matching.
• Proven experience working with sparse or long-tail data in production settings.
• Hands-on with vector search technologies (e.g., FAISS, Pinecone, Weaviate).
• Proficiency in Python, with exposure to libraries like PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, Scikit-learn, etc.
• Familiarity with ranking models (pairwise, listwise), feature engineering, and evaluation techniques.
• Knowledge of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and LLM integration into search pipelines.
