The Technology Solutions business unit is the Syneos Health accelerator for life sciences technology and innovation. Our work supports getting meaningful new medicines to patients faster with greater positive impact. Technology Solutions homegrown products and applications, commercial off-the-shelf, and software-as-a-service products ensure all employees work in a secure environment with clean data and deliver insights as part of our integrated strategy for customers.
The Principal Data Scientist will shape the strategic vision for data science within the organization, focusing on pioneering advanced methodologies and fostering cross-functional collaboration. This role will lead complex projects, provide thought leadership, and drive research initiatives that significantly impact business outcomes. This role involves collaborating with executives to align data science efforts with broader company goals and mentoring team members.
Job Responsibilities
- Help define and execute the strategic vision for data science within the organization, aligning with long-term business goals.
- Serve as a key technical advisor, providing technical expertise and specific guidance on critical data-driven projects.
- Interact with product teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments.
- Design, develop, and implement algorithms and processes to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse "big data" sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for client services and product enhancement.
- Assist team in identifying meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources, interpreting and communicating insights and findings from analysis and experiments to product, service, and business managers.
- Create and manage templates and standard operating procedures for algorithms, code repositories, rules, manuals, and other assets.
- Have broad analytics experience or innovative knowledge and use skills to contribute to achieving company objectives in creative and effective ways.
- Work on unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles.
- Mentor and coach junior team members across the business.
- Represent the organization in industry conferences and forums, sharing insights and establishing thought leadership.
Qualification Requirements
- Master's degree or equivalent experience in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field. PhD is preferred.
- Proficiency with programming languages like Python, R, and SQL.
- Proficiency with source code management, development workflows, and distributed version control.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure (must have) and other data/analytics platforms from cloud service providers.
- Causal analysis, expert-level knowledge of causal inference with significant experience deploying causal models.
- Extensive experience in leading research and development of new data science methodologies.
- Must be organized, detail oriented, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong track record of solving complex business problems using advanced data science techniques.
- Ability to unify the direct team and peers and interact effectively as a strategic partner with senior management to influence organizational strategy.
- Strong network within the data science community and industry.
- Significant contributions to open-source data science projects, influential peer-reviewed publications, or patents in data science.
- Familiarity with data governance and compliance issues (preferred).
