Overview
About the job
At SignSetu, we are dedicated to transforming Deaf education through our innovative learning platform. Our mission is to empower Deaf learners and promote their educational growth. Joining SignSetu means more than just finding bugs; it means ensuring a flawless, accessible experience that amplifies voices that have been too quiet for too long. You’ll collaborate with an inclusive team that celebrates diverse perspectives, guarantees the quality of features that land in real classrooms, and measures success by the seamless "aha!" moments of Deaf learners across India.
We are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse team at SignSetu. We believe that talent and skills come in various forms, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds and categories as long as they possess the passion and dedication required for the position.
What You’ll Do
- Thoroughly test our learner and teacher web dashboards (Next.js) and mobile applications (Flutter/React Native) for usability, edge cases, and bugs.
- Conduct comprehensive API testing using tools like Postman to ensure secure data flow and proper backend responses.
- Develop, execute, and maintain detailed manual test cases and test plans based on product requirements.
- Create clear, step-by-step bug reports and track them through resolution using our issue tracking systems.
- Verify cross-browser compatibility and cross-device performance, ensuring a smooth experience on various screen sizes and operating systems.
- Collaborate closely with the engineering and operations teams to reproduce issues, verify fixes, and ensure stable rollouts to our partner Deaf schools.
Technical Must-Haves
- Pursuing/completed a CS-related degree or equivalent self-taught experience (we give much more importance to practical experience).
- Strong understanding of software QA methodologies, tools, and manual testing processes.
- Hands-on experience or demonstrated ability to test both web and mobile applications from a user-centric perspective.
- Familiarity with RESTful API testing using Postman, Insomnia, or similar tools.
- Basic understanding of web technologies (HTML, CSS, DOM) and client-server architecture.
- Familiarity with bug tracking tools (e.g., GitHub Issues, Jira, Linear) and clear documentation practices.
Soft-Skill Superpowers
- Attention to detail — spot the UI/UX inconsistencies and edge-case behaviors that others miss.
- Empathetic communication — explain complex bugs clearly to engineers without pointing fingers.
- Active listening — seek to understand classroom pain points and user flows before writing test cases.
- Problem-solving mindset — treat bugs as puzzles; isolate the exact steps to reproduce an issue before reporting it.
- Time management & deadline discipline — prioritize critical testing paths to ensure we ship on schedule without compromising quality.
- Adaptability — embrace shifting requirements that arise from live classroom feedback.
- Work ethic & grit — roll up your sleeves when timelines tighten, maintaining a high bar for quality while driving releases over the finish line.
- Collaboration — work asynchronously across product, design, and engineering using Slack, Notion, and GitHub.
Nice-to-Have Extras
- Live testing portfolios or public bug reports (share links!) If you have real testing experience, we encourage you to apply.
- Basic knowledge of accessibility testing standards (WCAG) to ensure our platform is truly inclusive.
- Familiarity with the tech stack we use (Next.js, Supabase, mobile development frameworks).
- Exposure to basic automation concepts or tools (like Cypress or Playwright).
- Interest in EdTech and tools built for the Deaf community.
What Makes the Culture Cool
- We believe work should energize, not exhaust. At SignSetu you won’t be judged by how long you sit in front of a screen but by the impact your quality checks make in Deaf classrooms.
- Impact & Hours: We care about outcomes, not timecards. Hit your testing goals, ensure a stable release, and take the evening off.
- Zero micromanagement: You’ll have a mentor, not a manager breathing down your neck.
- Grow your QA expertise: Weekly reviews are designed to elevate you from following test scripts to designing comprehensive quality strategies.
- Transparent roadmaps: Everyone sees the product backlog and can pitch ideas—interns included.
This is a paid full-time internship position with a duration of 4 months, starting immediately. You will have the opportunity to work directly with the Deaf community and play an active role in improving Deaf education. We provide a stipend, Certificate, Letter of Recommendation, extensive learning opportunities, and the chance to make a direct social impact on the education of Deaf students.
