Description :Senior Data Operations Engineer / Data Platform Lead
Role Summary :
Own and operate enterprise scale data platforms with a focus on reliability, cost optimization, modernization, and governance. Lead cross functional initiatives spanning cloud data platforms, analytics tooling, and vendor ecosystems. Act as the execution bridge between engineering, analytics, finance, and leadership to deliver measurable business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities :
Data Platform Operations & Reliability :
- Own day to day operations of enterprise data platforms across cloud data warehouses, analytics, and integration layers.
- Drive platform stability through proactive monitoring, incident reduction, and rootcause remediation.
- Define and enforce operational standards, SOPs, and runbooks for data services.
- Lead largescale migrations and retirements (legacy BI, reporting, and data workloads) to modern cloud and analytics platforms.
- Design transition strategies that minimize risk, ensure continuity, and enable longterm scalability.
- Partner with engineering, analytics, and vendors to execute phased modernization roadmaps.
- Own cost management for data platforms, including usage analysis, rightsizing, and spend optimization.
- Partner with finance to forecast, track, and explain platform spend and variances.
- Deliver measurable savings through storage cleanup, compute optimization, and license rationalization.
- Enable scalable analytics consumption through governed semantic layers and reporting standards.
- Partner with BI developers and data engineers to define where logic belongs (ETL vs semantic layer).
- Support enterprise reporting migrations and adoption of modern analytics tooling.
- Act as primary technical owner for strategic vendors and system integrators.
- Evaluate new tools and platforms using structured, evidence based frameworks.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on platform capabilities, risks, and tradeoffs.
- Lead crossteam initiatives without formal authority through clarity, credibility, and execution discipline.
- Mentor engineers and analysts on platform best practices and operational excellence.
- Communicate complex technical topics in clear, executive ready language.

- Analytics & BI : Power BI, semantic modeling, enterprise reporting migrations
- Data Engineering & Ops : SQL, Spark, orchestration, monitoring, incident management
- Cost & Performance Optimization : Warehouse rightsizing, storage optimization, usage analytics
- Integration & Streaming : Event driven and batch data integration patterns
- Governance & Security : Access controls, service principals, compliance aligned operations
- Execution focused with strong ownership mindset
- Data driven decision maker with financial and operational awareness
- Comfortable operating at both deep technical and executive summary levels
- Known for reducing complexity, risk, and cost while improving reliability and scale
- Lead the architecture, design, and development of Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models.
- Collaborate with onshore stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective BI solutions.
- Build and optimize Power BI datasets, semantic models, and reusable dataflows in both Power BI and Fabric.
- Leverage Microsoft Fabric capabilities (Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Direct Lake, Dataflows Gen2, Notebooks) to design scalable BI and analytics solutions.
- Design and optimize data models using Snowflake as a primary cloud data platform.
- Ensure security and governance standards are implemented (row-level security, access management, workspace organization).
- Integrate Power BI, Fabric, and Snowflake with other data sources (Azure Data Lake, APIs, etc.).
- Define and enforce best practices for report performance, data modeling, and visual design.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior BI developers at offshore.
- Partner with onshore data engineering and analytics teams to ensure availability and reliability of underlying pipelines across Fabric and Snowflake.
- Stay current with Microsoft Power Platform, Fabric, and BI trends, recommending new features and approaches.
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Senior level experience : 10+ years overall in BI, with at least 3+ years working extensively in Power BI.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflows Gen2, Direct Lake).
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake (data modeling, performance tuning, security, and integration with BI tools).
- Strong expertise in DAX, Power Query (M), and data modeling techniques (star schema, snowflake schema).
- Proficiency in Snowflake SQL and working with large, complex datasets.
- Strong understanding of BI governance, security, and lifecycle management.
- Excellent communication and ability to work effectively with distributed onshoreoffshore teams.
- Experience in architecting enterprise BI solutions using Power BI Premium/Power BI Service, Microsoft Fabric, and Snowflake, Azure ,Tableau, Sigma,Alteryx, Databricks .
- Exposure to MicroStrategy or other legacy BI tools.
- Proven experience in migrating from legacy BI platforms (such as MicroStrategy, Cognos, or Tableau) to Power BI.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, version control, and CI/CD pipelines for BI, Fabric, and Snowflake assets.
- Knowledge of complementary Microsoft Power Platform tools (Power Apps, Power Automate).
- Exposure to data visualization best practices and UI/UX design principles.
