Your future duties and responsibilities
- CGI is looking for an experienced Mainframe Developer with strong expertise in COBOL, DB2, and VSAM to join our team.
- The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting business-critical mainframe applications.
- You will work closely with business analysts, QA teams, and other IT professionals to ensure seamless application functionality and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, DB2, and VSAM.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Perform data analysis and write complex SQL queries on DB2 databases.
- Maintain and optimize batch and online programs.
- Perform unit and integration testing; support user acceptance testing (UAT).
- Provide production support and troubleshoot application issues.
- Participate in code reviews and follow coding standards and best practices.
- Document application changes and update system documentation.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
- Strong hands-on experience in COBOL, DB2, and VSAM.
- Experience with JCL, CICS, and mainframe utilities (e.g., IDCAMS, IEBGENER).
- Knowledge of mainframe development lifecycle and change management tools.
- Proficient in writing and debugging SQL and working with stored procedures in DB2.
- Good understanding of file handling, batch jobs, and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with Agile or Waterfall development methodologies.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in financial services, insurance, or banking domain.
