Overview
Position Description
We are seeking an experienced RPG Developer to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in IBM i (AS/400) systems and RPG programming, with the ability to design, develop, and maintain enterprise applications. This role requires strong technical skills, problem-solving ability, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to support business-critical operations.
Your future duties and responsibilities
Application Development
Design, develop, and maintain RPG programs on IBM i (AS/400) systems.
Develop scalable and efficient applications supporting enterprise business processes.
Requirement Analysis
Work with business stakeholders and analysts to understand functional requirements.
Translate business requirements into technical specifications.
Integration
Develop and maintain interfaces with external systems, APIs, and databases.
Support modernization and integration initiatives.
Application Maintenance
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application issues.
Optimize performance, reliability, and scalability of RPG applications.
Testing & Support
Perform unit testing and support QA/UAT cycles.
Provide production support and issue resolution.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
Prepare and maintain technical documentation for applications and processes.
Stay updated with IBM i technologies and modernization tools.
Must Have Skills
5–7 years of hands-on experience in RPG programming (RPG III, RPG IV, RPGLE, Free RPG)
Strong experience with **IBM i (AS/400) environment
Experience with CL (Control Language) programming
Strong knowledge of DB2/400 databases
Experience in application integration and API development
Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills
Good communication and collaboration skills
Good to Have Skills
Experience with modernization tools or integration with SQL, Java, or .NET
Exposure to **ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle ERP
Experience working in finance, manufacturing, logistics, or telecom domains
Familiarity with Agile or Waterfall development methodologies
Experience working with global cross-functional teams
Qualifications & Skills
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 5 years to 7 years of hands-on experience in RPG programming (RPG III/IV, RPGLE, Free RPG).
- Strong knowledge of IBM i (AS/400) environment, CL programming, and DB2/400.
- Experience with application integration, APIs, and modernization projects.
- Familiarity with software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall).
- Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
