Description

As a Software Engineer on our data-focused team, you will play a key role in designing, building, and scaling critical data infrastructure and processes. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to develop and drive adoption of Data Mesh principles and data-centric microservices that power Apple’s manufacturing systems.

Apple’s Manufacturing Systems and Infrastructure (MSI) team is responsible for capturing, consolidating, and tracking manufacturing data for all Apple products and modules globally. Our tools empower teams across Apple to confidently use data to shape the future of product manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• As a Senior Software Engineer, Big Data, you will lead the development and implementation of our cloud-based data infrastructure. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements, design scalable solutions, and ensure the integrity and availability of our data. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of cloud technologies, data engineering best practices, and a proven track record of successfully delivering complex data projects.
• Design and implement scalable cloud-based data architectures.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to define and deliver data solutions.
• Build and maintain real-time data streaming solutions using Apache Spark, Storm, Flink, or similar technologies.
• Ensure high data quality, consistency, and availability across platforms.
• Optimize data pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Implement best practices around data security, privacy, and governance.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across projects.
• Stay updated with emerging trends in cloud computing and big data ecosystems.
  
  

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 7+ years of hands-on programming experience with Java, Scala, Python, or GoLang.
• Proven experience as a Big Data engineer, with a focus on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Strong proficiency with big data technologies like Hadoop and Spark.
• Experience with streaming data technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis.
• Demonstrated ability to build and scale data streaming solutions.
• This role requires up to 25% domestic and international travel for project collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and deployment support.
  
  

• Expertise in data modeling and integration.
• Familiarity with modern data warehouse solutions like Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake, or Druid.
• Experience with ETL tools and metadata management platforms like Reltio, Stibo, Informatica, Apache Atlas.
• Understanding of data governance, privacy, and compliance frameworks.
• Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Big Data – Specialty, Azure Data Engineer).
• Knowledge of machine learning and data science workflows.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Open-source contributions or community engagement in the data engineering space.
