Senior Software Engineer

The Job

Working within a corporate IT operations organization as an Automation Engineer

• Automate routine administrative tasks using PowerShell, VSHELL, and other scripting tools (e.g., Bash, Python) to streamline deployments, monitoring, and maintenance.

• Build and maintain repeatable automation workflows using Ansible/Terraform and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins/GitHub Actions) with approvals, rollbacks, and promotion across environments.

• Automate monitoring, alerting, and reporting (SolarWinds/Splunk/vROps) including log/metric collection, threshold tuning, and auto-remediation runbooks where appropriate.

• Manage automation code using version control (Git), implement code reviews, and apply testing/validation (linting, dry-runs, staging) to ensure safe, repeatable changes.

• Implement secure automation practices: integrate secrets management (Vault/SSM), least-privilege access, credential rotation, and audit-friendly logging.

• Standardize and automate server provisioning and patching for Windows and VMware (templates, configuration baselines, scheduled maintenance windows) with clear pre/post checks.

• Support projects to meet IT objectives while managing time based on priorities.

• Provide reports and metrics to support operations requirements analysis and growth planning.

Required Skills

Scripting automation (PowerShell, VSHELL) for deployment, monitoring, and maintenance; Linux and Windows automation experience is a plus. System maintenance and upgrades: apply patches, upgrades, and security updates across Windows Server and VMware infrastructure. Documentation: create and maintain clear operational documentation (runbooks, SOPs, and change records).
