Overview
We’re hiring a CAD/3D Engineer to develop and validate simulation-ready 3D assets. This role focuses on creating high-fidelity models and performing QA/QC to ensure assets match real-world objects in geometry, scale, surface characteristics, and material definitions. You’ll also support integration into an existing Blender-based pipeline and help maintain modeling standards.
Key Responsibilities
1) CAD Modeling & Asset Development
- Build high-fidelity 3D models of vehicles (ground/air/sea) and infrastructure/environment assets.
- Create clean, simulation-ready meshes (STL/OBJ/FBX as needed) with correct scale, orientation, and naming.
- Maintain Levels of Detail (LOD) for performance and scalability.
- Model from technical references, drawings, images, and public/open-source materials.
Verify assets against references for dimensional accuracy, proportions, key features, and assemblies.
Ensure mesh integrity: watertight/manifold (when required), correct normals, consistent topology, and no self-intersections.
- Validate and document surface/material properties used in simulation/rendering (e.g., material categories, roughness/metalness/specular conventions, surface smoothness).
- Establish QC checklists and acceptance criteria for assets (units, pivot/origin, LOD consistency, naming, hierarchy, metadata).
- Identify and resolve geometry/material issues causing artifacts in downstream rendering/simulation outputs.
- Integrate assets into an automated Blender-based pipeline and standardized scene conventions.
- Use parameter-driven configs (e.g., YAML/JSON) as part of the asset ingestion workflow.
- Write small Python scripts/utilities for export automation and validation checks.
- Support minor fixes/maintenance to existing asset tooling and documentation.
- Maintain asset preparation guidelines: modeling rules, export settings, QC procedures, and versioning practices.
- Create example assets/templates to help standardize future model creation.
Must Have
Strong CAD/3D modeling experience (SolidWorks / Fusion 360 / Rhino / Blender or similar).
Strong understanding of mesh topology, geometric accuracy, and clean export practices.
- Experience exporting STL/OBJ (and ideally FBX/GLTF) with consistent scale and orientation.
- Blender experience (modeling + scene organization); basic knowledge of materials/shaders is a plus.
- Ability to perform structured QA/QC using references (drawings, photos, specs) and produce clear validation reports.
- Basic Python scripting for automation/validation (mesh checks, naming rules, export helpers).
- Familiarity with ray-tracing/rendering workflows or physics-based simulation constraints.
- Experience with large assemblies, vehicles, or infrastructure-grade models.
- Git/version control and asset versioning discipline.
- Experience building internal standards/checklists for asset production.
