Roles & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Applications Development, the Full Stack Java Software Engineer II is part of a collaborative team responsible for the detailed design, documentation, development, unit testing and maintenance of internally developed applications supporting Availity’s Payer Spaces applications. This team writes applications per the request of healthcare insurance companies that are hosted by Availity and are in the process of scaling up and reengineering applications in AWS cloud. We anticipate this role to be ~80% backend and ~20% frontend development.

• Solving healthcare problems & improving processes
• Supporting, maintaining, and developing features for Availity’s Provider Data Management Application
• Collaborating closely with another US development team on similar projects
• Working on a team with several Software Engineers, Quality Assurance Engineers and a Product Owner
• Working on a team following Agile Scrum principles
• Using such technologies as Python, Spark, Java, JavaScript, Node.js, React.js, & Aurora DB
• Implementing a backlog of items to fulfill a focused roadmap.
• Applying micro-service architectures.
• Using Data Engineering to build data pipelines
• Ensuring your code is efficient, optimized, and performant.
• Collaborating on programming or development standards.
• Maintaining technical debt and applying security principles.
• Reviewing the code of others while receiving feedback to ensure code quality.
• Innovating with ideas and products to the organization.
• Performing unit testing and complex debugging to ensure quality.
• Learning new things and sharing your knowledge with others.
  
  

• 3+ years of progressive work experience designing & developing solutions for business initiatives.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
• Leverages or knowledgeable of the following languages & frameworks:
• Java – 8 and above
• Python
• Scala
• JavaScript, React.js, and Node.js
• SQL (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
• HTML/CSS/Bootstrap
• Works with RESTful APIs and web services.
• Designs using micro-service architecture.
• Applies Object-Oriented Design (OOD) principles.
• Understands database design principles & query language.
• Basic Knowledge of Data Engineering Frameworks like Redshift, Airflow, Spark
• Implements code-based unit tests.
• Comfortable with AWS Serverless architectures
• Ability to leverage Git, Gitlab, Jenkins, Kubernetes/OpenShift, Docker, or similar tools for delivery.
• Writes technical documentation.
• Gathers technical requirements.
• Writes code to maintain large-scale complex systems.
• Follows Agile software development methodologies.
• Designs efficient and performant solutions.
• Manages maintainable levels of technical debt.
• Takes initiative and ownership of their work
• Prior healthcare industry experience is a plus
