Role Description

We are seeking a Senior Engineer to join our team in the Broadband R&D organization in Bangalore, India.

This position is part of a strategic new team responsible for OLT-ONU interoperability, stability, and compliance.

You will serve as a QA engineer with responsibility for integration, testing and preferably SW development, combining deep PON expertise with hands-on, diagnosing complex issues, implementing fixes, and ensure seamless ONU integration across customer deployments.

Location:

Hybrid role – working at 3-4 days a week from our office in Bangalore.

What You Will Be Doing

• Execute and maintain the ONU IoP acceptance test suite used to qualify ONUs for customer deployments
• Diagnose and resolve complex interoperability issues between ONUs and Harmonic's vOLT through deep technical analysis of logs, traces, and source code
• Read and debug C++ and Python code to identify root causes for straightforward issues
• Analyze PON specifications (ITU-T G.984, G.987, G.9807, G.988) to assess compliance and guide resolution of protocol deviations
• Lead technical discussions with ONU vendors to isolate and resolve interoperability gaps, using captured traces and specification analysis
• Collaborate with R&D scrum teams on complex issues, providing detailed technical findings and reproduction scenarios
• Validate vendor fixes through regression and acceptance testing
• Use of automation tools for execution and debugging to improve test coverage and analysis efficiency
  
  

• BE/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech degree in CS/EC/IT or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in networking systems QA, integration, or R&D
• Familiar with C++ and Python programming skills with the ability to read, debug, and modify production code- advantage
• Proficiency with Linux environments and network debugging tools (Wireshark, tcpdump)
• Solid knowledge of networking protocols (MT-2, Ethernet, VLAN, IPv4/6, DHCP, multicast)
• Experience with traffic generation tools (IXIA, Spirent, iPerf)
• Understanding of PON architecture, protocols, and specifications, including OLT/ONU interoperability, OMCI, and PLOAM messaging - advantage
• Basic familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) – advantage
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform deep root-cause analysis
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills in English
