About The Role

We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Calendars Platform Team, which powers core scheduling experiences across our product ecosystem. This team is responsible for delivering a reliable, secure, and performant infrastructure that handles millions of time-critical operations — from availability computation and event syncing to real-time collaboration across multiple calendar providers.

As a Staff Engineer, you’ll lead the technical direction of the platform, solve complex distributed system problems, and mentor engineers across squads. You’ll partner closely with PMs, designers, infra, and security teams to drive long-term architecture, elevate engineering standards, and ensure seamless user experiences at scale.

Responsibilities:

• Own architecture and scaling decisions for key calendar platform components (e.g., availability engine, recurring event handling, calendar sync, slot booking APIs)
• Lead design and execution of cross-cutting initiatives to improve reliability, latency, and throughput across time-sensitive APIs and workflows
• Work hands-on with technologies like NestJS, PostgreSQL, Firestore, MongoDB, Redis, GCP Pub/Sub, and Istio-based microservices
• Drive observability and resilience by evolving our monitoring, alerting (Prometheus/Grafana), and incident response strategies
• Partner with product, infra, and security teams to ensure data integrity, access control, and compliance across calendar data
• Mentor and guide a team of high-performing engineers, encouraging technical excellence and career growth
• Participate in design reviews, deep dives, and on-call rotations to support a high-bar culture of accountability and operational excellence
  
  
  

Requirements:

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience, including designing fault-tolerant systems and working on high-scale platforms
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous job processing
• Proven experience optimizing availability, performance, and reliability in real-world systems under load
• Strong experience with relational and NoSQL data models (especially with complex temporal data)
• Familiarity with monitoring, SLOs, and root-cause analysis in production environments
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
• A pragmatic, hands-on leader who balances long-term vision with iterative execution
  
  
  

Preferred Experience:

• Experience working with calendar APIs (Google, Outlook, iCloud) or scheduling platforms
• Experience in time zone normalization, recurrence rules (RRULE), and calendar event reconciliation
• Contributions to open-source tools, internal platforms, or engineering blogs
