Overview
We are looking for an IT Infrastructure Support Engineer (L1) to provide day-to-day operational support for servers, firewalls, Linux basic administration, network troubleshooting, and hardware break-fix. The role involves monitoring infrastructure, handling tickets, resolving user and system issues within SLA, escalating to L2/L3 when required, and maintaining.
Job Description
Server & Infrastructure Support
- Monitor and support server health and availability (CPU, memory, disk, services, uptime).
- Perform basic server administration tasks such as:
- Checking services, logs, resource usage, and connectivity
- Assisting with patching activities and routine maintenance (as per SOP)
- Support backup checks, job monitoring, and restore coordination (as per process).
- Assist in access provisioning and account-related tasks (as per approvals).
- Provide L1 support on Linux systems including:
- Basic commands (ls, cd, cp, mv, grep, tail, top, df, du)
- Service checks (systemctl / service), process monitoring, log review
- User/group management basics, permission checks (chmod/chown)
- Identify issues and escalate with proper logs and evidence to L2/L3 teams.
Support Firewall Operations Such As
- Coordinating rule request implementations (as per approvals/change process)
- Basic understanding of NAT, ACL policies, VPN concepts
- Monitoring firewall alerts and assisting in incident triage
- Ensure change management and documentation are followed for firewall/network changes.
- Troubleshoot LAN/WAN and network-related issues using standard tools:
- Ping, traceroute, nslookup/dig, ipconfig/ifconfig, netstat
- Handle basic issues related to:
- DNS/DHCP, IP conflicts, VLAN connectivity (basic), gateway reachability
- Switch port checks/co-ordination with network team
- Coordinate with ISP/network vendors for link issues (as needed).
- Diagnose and resolve hardware issues: desktops/laptops, RAM/HDD/SSD, power issues, peripherals.
- Coordinate RMA/vendor support, asset tagging, and spare management.
- Support server room / rack basics (as applicable): cable checks, labeling, basic physical verification.
- Work on IT tickets using tools like (any).
- Follow ITIL basics: Incident, Service Request, Problem escalation, Change process.
- Maintain handover notes, incident reports (basic), and SOP/runbook updates.
- Server Basics: Monitoring, disk space issues, service availability, basic troubleshooting.
- Linux L1 Knowledge: Commands, logs, services, user access basics.
- Firewall Basics: Understanding of policies/rules, NAT, VPN concepts, change coordination.
- Networking Fundamentals: TCP/IP, subnet basics, DNS, DHCP, routing basics, troubleshooting steps.
- Hardware Troubleshooting: Break-fix, diagnostics, vendor coordination.
- Soft Skills: Good communication, ticket updates, ability to work in shifts, teamwork.
- Education: Any
- Linux: Linux Essentials / RHCSA (basic exposure)
- Network: CCNA (basic)
- Security/Firewall: Sophos (entry),
- ITIL Foundation (optional)
- Exposure to VMware/Hyper-V or virtualization basics.
- Basic scripting knowledge: Bash (simple scripts/commands).
- Familiarity with monitoring tools: Zabbix / Nagios / PRTG / SolarWinds.
- Understanding of cloud fundamentals (GCP/AWS/Azure) is a plus.
Ticket resolution within SLA and clear, timely updates.
- Accurate troubleshooting with proper logs/screenshots/evidence.
- Correct escalation to L2/L3 with good analysis (not just forwarding).
- Zero/low errors in changes due to process adherence.
