About the role

Mindrops is building a next-generation AML and fraud prevention platform powered by Graph Neural Networks — designed for European banks, fintechs, and payment institutions navigating AMLR and AMLD compliance.

We are looking for a Technical Lead — a hybrid leader who is hands-on with engineering and brings working knowledge of AML and financial crime. You will lead a small team of ML and backend engineers, drive architecture decisions, and own delivery of the detection engine, alert workflow, and SAR pipeline.

This is not a pure people-management role. You will still write code, review pull requests, and pair with engineers on the hardest parts of the system — while also setting direction, unblocking the team, and representing the work to clients and stakeholders.

What you will ownEngineering leadership

• Set technical direction and architecture for the platform — make the build-versus-buy calls, choose the stack, own the trade-offs
• Be hands-on — write the most critical pieces of code yourself, pair on the hard problems, keep your hands on the keyboard
• Drive engineering quality — CI/CD, test coverage, monitoring, incident response

Technical scope

• The GNN-based detection engine — GraphSAGE, GAT, or equivalent message-passing architectures with SHAP explainability
• Real-time transaction graph ingestion and feature engineering — Kafka, Neo4j or TigerGraph
• Scoring API, alert generation engine, audit trail, and SAR auto-drafting
• Model retraining loops, false-positive feedback workflows, and drift monitoring

AML domain

• Map AML typologies — structuring, layering, smurfing, trade-based laundering, PEP proximity, fan-out dispersion — to detection logic
• Translate regulatory requirements (AMLR, AMLD, FATF) into engineering specifications
• Design the SAR drafting and 4-eyes approval workflow
• Represent the engineering team in client compliance reviews and regulator-facing conversations

What you must have

• 5–8 years total engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a tech lead or team lead capacity
• Strong hands-on ML background with practical experience deploying graph models in production — GraphSAGE, GAT, TGN, or equivalent. Tabular ML alone is not sufficient.
• Working knowledge of AML, transaction monitoring, or financial fraud detection — either through direct project work or strong self-driven study of the domain
• Strong command of Python, PyTorch / PyTorch Geometric or DGL, and modern cloud infra (AWS or GCP)
• Comfort with graph databases (Neo4j, TigerGraph), streaming systems (Kafka), and production-grade ML serving
• Demonstrated ability to lead a small team — code review discipline, mentoring junior engineers, breaking down ambiguous problems
• Strong written communication — you will write technical specs, architectural decisions, and client-facing notes

Nice to have

· Experience with SHAP or other model explainability techniques for regulated ML systems

· Prior work at a regtech vendor, bank, or fintech (NICE Actimize, Quantexa, SymphonyAI, ComplyAdvantage, or similar)

· CAMS, ICA, or equivalent AML certification

· Exposure to GDPR or data sovereignty design — consent management, personal data wallets

· Crypto AML or sanctions screening background

· Past work with European banks or fintechs
