Data Governance Architect

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in Data Governance
• Strong understanding of data governance concepts (ownership, stewardship, metadata, lineage, policies).
• Experience with data quality frameworks and monitoring.
• Knowledge of data security, privacy, and compliance principles.
• Ability to translate business requirements into governance rules and standards.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

Data Governance Architect: R&R

• Define and implement the Data Governance strategy, operating model, and framework (policies, standards, procedures).
• Establish data ownership, stewardship roles, and accountability across business and technical teams.
• Lead data quality management initiatives (profiling, completeness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness).
• Create and maintain data standards, definitions, and a common business glossary.
• Define data classification and ensure appropriate controls for sensitive data (PII/PHI/confidential).
• Design and support metadata management, data lineage, and data catalog adoption.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and external regulations (as applicable).
• Define data access and usage controls, including role-based access and approval workflows.
• Support governance for enterprise reporting (e.g., Book of Business, Data Completeness, KPI dashboards).
• Partner with engineering teams to ensure governance is embedded into data pipelines and architecture.
• Create governance metrics, dashboards, and reporting for leadership visibility.
• Drive issue management processes for data defects including root cause analysis and remediation tracking.
• Provide guidance on governance best practices during new system implementations and migrations.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with tools like Collibra, Alation, Atlan, Azure Purview (any relevant tool).
• Knowledge of cloud data platforms (AWS / Azure / GCP).
• Good to have Databricks Unity Catalog experience
• Experience working with data warehouses/lakes and BI reporting tools.
• Familiarity with Agile delivery and SDLC processes.
