Role Description
The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust database solutions aligned with business needs. This role involves optimizing performance, ensuring database security, managing disaster recovery plans, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The Senior DBA will mentor junior team members, enforce best practices, and stay updated on emerging database technologies.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement database solutions in line with business requirements and architectural standards.
- Conduct capacity planning and performance forecasting to ensure database scalability.
- Monitor database performance using tools like SQL Server Management Studio and Dynamic Management Views (DMVs).
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks through query optimization and indexing strategies.
- Implement and maintain high availability solutions such as Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, and log shipping.
- Develop and regularly test disaster recovery plans to ensure rapid and accurate data restoration.
- Establish and enforce database security policies, including user roles, permissions, and data encryption.
- Perform security audits and vulnerability assessments to protect sensitive data.
- Develop and automate backup and recovery processes to ensure data integrity and optimize performance.
- Collaborate with application development teams to optimize database interactions and facilitate smooth deployments.
- Partner with IT operations to integrate database systems with infrastructure and cloud services.
- Document database designs, configurations, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Implement best practices for database management and provide technical guidelines to the team.
- Mentor junior DBAs through training sessions, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
- Stay updated on emerging database technologies and trends to drive innovation.
- Expertise in relational database systems (SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle).
- Strong knowledge of performance tuning and query optimization techniques.
- Experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Always On, Failover Clustering).
- Proficiency in database security implementation and compliance.
- Strong expertise in backup and recovery strategies, including automation.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., SQL Server Management Studio, DMVs).
- Ability to manage large-scale databases and ensure data consistency across environments.
- Experience with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation.
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases and big data technologies.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
- Exposure to data governance and regulatory compliance frameworks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to mentor and guide junior team members.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and performance.
- Adaptability to emerging technologies and industry trends.
