Job Profile: Network Engineer (Infrastructure and Configuration Specialist)
Job Summary
The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, installing, configuring, and maintaining network infrastructure, with a focus on setting up and managing network racks. This role involves hands-on expertise in network hardware installation, cabling, and configuration to ensure robust, secure, and scalable network operations.
Key Responsibilities
● Network Rack Installation:
○ Assemble and install network racks, including mounting servers, routers, switches, and patch panels.
○ Perform structured cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a fiber optics) and ensure compliance with TIA/EIA standards.
○ Label and organize cables for easy maintenance and troubleshooting.
● Hardware Setup:
○ Install and configure networking equipment such as routers, switches (e.g., Ubiquiti, Cisco, Juniper, Arista), firewalls, and wireless access points.
○ Ensure proper power management, including UPS and PDU installation.
○ Test and validate hardware functionality post-installation.
● Network Configuration:
○ Configure network devices using protocols like OSPF, BGP, VLANs, and QoS.
○ Set up VPNs, firewalls, and security policies to ensure network integrity.
○ Implement IP addressing schemes (IPv4/IPv6) and subnetting.
● Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
○ Monitor network performance using tools like SolarWinds, Nagios, or Wireshark.
○ Diagnose and resolve network issues, including connectivity, latency, and packet loss.
○ Perform regular maintenance, firmware upgrades, and patch management.
● Documentation and Compliance:
○ Create and maintain detailed network diagrams, rack elevations, and configuration records.
○ Ensure compliance with organizational policies and industry standards (e.g., ISO 27001, GDPR).
● Collaboration:
○ Work with cross-functional teams, including system administrators and security engineers.
○ Coordinate with vendors for equipment procurement and support.
Required Skills and Qualifications
● Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, or a related field.
● Experience: 3–5 years of experience in network engineering, with at least 2 years of hands-on network rack installation and configuration.
● Technical Skills:
○ Proficiency in installing and configuring network devices (Ubiquiti, Cisco, Juniper, HP, etc.).
○ Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, etc.).
○ Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
○ Familiarity with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud networking (AWS, Azure).
○ Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
● Certifications (Preferred):
○ Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
○ CompTIA Network+ or Security+.
○ Juniper Networks Certified Associate (JNCIA) or equivalent.
● Soft Skills:
○ Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
○ Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
○ Ability to work under pressure and handle on-call responsibilities.
Physical Requirements
● Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 20–30 kg.
● Comfortable working in data centers or confined spaces for rack installations.
● Dexterity for precise cabling and equipment handling.
Work Environment
● Primarily on-site in offices, or client locations.
● May require occasional travel for multi-site network deployments.
● Flexible to work in shifts or provide after-hours support for critical issues.
Salary Range (India)
● ₹4,00,000 to ₹6,00,000 per annum, depending on experience and certifications
