About the Role
The Scrum Master is a critical role responsible for ensuring predictable, high-quality, and timely delivery of enterprise-scale AI, Data, and Generative AI initiatives. This role operates at the intersection of Agile execution, program governance, and stakeholder management, ensuring that cross-functional teams comprising AI engineers, data engineers, platform engineers, designers, and business stakeholders work in a coordinated, transparent, and outcome-driven manner.
This role exists to prevent risks by enforcing Agile rigor, delivery cadence, and strong communication, while remaining flexible to the experimental nature of AI initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Agile Delivery & Scrum Execution
- Act as Scrum Master for one or more AI delivery squads, ensuring adherence to Agile and Scrum principles
- Facilitate Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews/demos, retrospectives, and backlog refinement
- Ensure sprint goals are clearly defined, understood, and achievable
- Coach teams on Agile best practices, adapting Scrum pragmatically for AI and research-driven work
- Identify, manage, and remove impediments impacting delivery
- Drive continuous improvement through retrospectives and actionable follow-ups
- Use Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar tools for tracking, reporting, and transparency
2. Program & Delivery Management
- Own end-to-end delivery planning including release planning, milestones, and dependency management
- Track progress against plans, proactively identifying risks, delays, and bottlenecks
- Monitor and report delivery metrics such as velocity, predictability, and sprint outcomes
- Manage dependencies across AI, data, platform, DevOps, product, UX, and business teams
- Ensure alignment between sprint execution and program-level objectives
3. Backlog, Scope & Prioritization
- Partner with Product Owners, AI Architects, and stakeholders to define and refine backlogs
- Break down initiatives into clear, executable user stories and tasks
- Ensure backlog items are well-defined, prioritized by value and risk, and ready for execution
- Manage scope changes and clearly communicate impact on timelines and outcomes
4. Stakeholder Communication & Governance
- Act as the primary coordination point between engineering teams, product, business stakeholders, and leadership
- Provide clear and transparent reporting on delivery status, risks, issues, and dependencies
- Facilitate decision-making forums and escalate issues when required
- Support governance processes including leadership reviews and steering committee updates
5. Risk, Issue & Dependency Management
- Proactively identify delivery risks related to resourcing, technical dependencies, data readiness, and external vendors
- Maintain risk and issue logs, driving mitigation plans to closure
- Define and track delivery metrics such as velocity, burndown/burn-up, and release readiness
- Use metrics to improve planning accuracy, identify systemic bottlenecks, and drive continuous improvement
- Balance traditional Agile metrics with AI-specific realities such as experimentation and model iteration cycles
6. Tools & Delivery Enablement
- Own Agile delivery tools such as Jira/Azure DevOps and documentation platforms like Confluence
- Ensure delivery artifacts are maintained, including sprint plans, backlogs, roadmaps, and release plans
- Promote best practices for documentation, transparency, and knowledge sharing
7. Collaboration & Team Enablement
- Foster a collaborative, high-trust environment across diverse roles and disciplines
- Coach teams on Agile principles, effective collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Support onboarding of new team members and vendors into Agile delivery processes
- Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and delivery excellence
Qualifications
- 8–12 years of experience as a Scrum Master, Agile Delivery Manager, or Program Delivery Lead
- Proven experience delivering complex, cross-functional technology programs in enterprise environments
- Experience working with AI, data, analytics, or digital product teams preferred
- Strong hands-on experience with Agile delivery tools such as Jira and Azure DevOps
- Experience managing dependencies across multiple teams and workstreams
- Consulting or multi-stakeholder environment experience is a plus
- Deep understanding of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban) and scaled Agile concepts (SAFe, LeSS, or similar)
- Ability to adapt Agile practices pragmatically for AI and research-driven delivery models
- Strong facilitation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills
- Proven ability to coach teams toward higher productivity, transparency, and Agile maturity
- Strong reporting and presentation skills for leadership audiences
- Ability to operate effectively under ambiguity and evolving priorities
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building abilities
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or equivalent
- SAFe Agilist or other scaled Agile certifications
