Network Administrator (SME)

Job Role

• Provide expert-level guidance on the configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting of network devices (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, VIOS, D-Link, etc.). Review network architecture and advise teams on best practices for scalability, performance, and security.

• Assist with complex network issues by providing insights and recommendations to resolve challenges using your extensive knowledge of networking protocols and technologies. Advise on network security compliance and ensure configurations align with industry standards, such as DISA, CIS, and other security frameworks.

• Provide strategic advice on network performance improvements, security enhancements, and infrastructure planning. Mentor and guide network engineers and junior staff, ensuring best practices are followed in network configuration and troubleshooting.

• Evaluate and recommend new network technologies or adjustments to existing configurations based on evolving business needs and technical advancements. Set up and maintain virtual environments for development and testing purposes, ensuring reliable and controlled spaces for simulating network configurations and troubleshooting scenarios.

• Document network standards, guidelines, and best practices for consistent application across the organization. Extensive hands-on experience with network devices such as Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, VIOS, D-Link, Nexus, and others.

• Expert-level understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, DNS, DHCP) and technologies (e.g., VLANs, VPNs, NAT, SD-WAN).

• Strong expertise in network security principles, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS systems. Experience in network design and architecture, with a focus on optimizing performance and troubleshooting complex network issues.

• Experience setting up and maintaining virtual environments for testing and development (e.g.,using tools like VMware, VirtualBox, or container technologies such as Docker). In-depth knowledge of network security compliance frameworks (e.g., DISA, CIS) and industry best practices.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to advise and mentor teams based on best practices and deep technical expertise.

• Certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Juniper JNCIA, Fortinet NSE, or similar. Experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure) and hybrid network environments. Familiarity with SD-WAN and SDN technologies. Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
