Software Engineer (Backend)

We are seeking a highly skilled Founding Backend Developer to build and scale the core backend systems for Y1’s fintech platform. In this role, you will architect backend services, design scalable APIs, integrate secure identity and authentication systems, and ensure our platform grows reliably alongside the business. As an early technical leader, you will own critical engineering decisions, influence product direction, and have a clear path toward future technical leadership as the company scales.

Key responsibilities include developing backend services using Node.js, designing microservices, and managing relational databases with MySQL. You will implement secure authentication and authorization flows through Keycloak, collaborate closely with product and frontend teams, and establish engineering best practices across coding standards, CI/CD, and documentation. You will also contribute to early architectural planning to define the long-term technical foundation of the company.

We are looking for candidates with 3+ years of backend development experience, strong proficiency in Node.js, and deep knowledge of MySQL schema design and optimization. Experience working with Keycloak for IAM, API design, and secure authentication flows such as OAuth2 and OpenID Connect is essential. Familiarity with distributed systems and cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) is expected, along with the ability to thrive in an autonomous, fast-paced startup environment.

Additional desirable skills include DevOps experience (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD), event-driven architecture, fintech exposure, and prior startup or founding-team experience.
